Audio Problems

Hi guys, I recently bought Civ 4 and everything is installed fine, patched etc. But as soon as I launch the game, and its loading, it seems to switch audio channels on my sound card, which gives me a low static noise, and makes the rest of the audio far too quiet. Any other game plays fine. I've had a look at my sound cards settings whilst the game is loading, and it seems to change the "codec sample rate" from 44,100 (default) down to 8,000. This is what is cause the problem, because if I manually change it myself to 8,000 I can hear the static noise.

After the games loaded, I've tried manually putting it back to 44,100 hz, but when I go back to the game, the audio is speeded up, and everything sounds like the chipmonks

Is there any way to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

Sonic

Edit - Forgot to post, My soundcard is an Audiophile 2496

Ah! Excellent! You've inadvertantly solved my own audio problem!

I never noticed before that it drops my samplerate down to 8000. I simply hit the "samplerate locked" button on my soundcard control panel, and all is fixed. Trouble is, I had it unlocked as I do a lot of audio work in different sample rates in my sequencer, which is why it was unlocked. Well, I'm happy it's fixed. Why on earth Civ IV drops the samplerate down to 8000 in the first place I don't know. I think I will email firaxis about this, and also I think the mods should add this to the fix it list. I'm also going to probe the .ini files to see if there's any "knock down to 8000 = 1" options in there :>

I'm actually quite gutted I didn't notice this before. I'm supposed to be in music tech, it's one of the first things I should have checked!

My pleasure :) Right then. where's them bloody mongols, they gonna get a chinese kickin'.
