Auto Save useless

The autosave games go into an auto save folder within the single player save folder.
However, they can be loaded from the BTS game.

I moved a folder into the save folder, which can be accessed, but the game continues to save autosaves where it wants; into the above mentioned folder where I can not access them.

I am running Windows Vista on a Thinkpad 200X

Why can't you access the autosave folder? Do you not have the necessary permission?

As far as I know autosaves will only be saved to the folder called "auto", and I think it's located in

\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Saves\single\auto

(for winXP, may be different for vista I'm not sure).

When you save the game normally, you can still save to any location.

Also, see what happens if you open up the file

\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CivilizationIV.ini

and fiddle with the parameter

FileName = 0
