OK, I have one thing I need to get off my chest:
Once again I've seen some "critic" on TV talking about the Oscars and the expected "competition" between Avatar and Hurt Locker. Apparently, Avatar is expected to win in the "technical" categories, but Hurt Locker is expected to get the highest prize because it has a "stronger story".
I was like: "What?!"
I've seen both films and although we can endlessly debate about the quality of the story in Avatar, at least there is some. Not that I want to say that Hurt Locker is a bad film, no, but it almost totally lacks any kind of coherent story. It's more like a set of scenes, which are barely related to each other. It's extremely episodic, there is practically nothing to follow except the "adventures" of the main characters. It could well have been a BBC-style docu-drama about a bomb squad in Iraq.
I totally don't understand why should anybody seriously contemplate this film as a serious competition to Avatar, because it loses in almost every aspect.
Oh, except one - it's about Iraq, so let's forget it has no story. And yes, the director is Cameron's ex-wife, that's really important!
