Babylonian special ability

Anything related to Hammurabi would be wonderful. :)

Hell, make him the second UU and his ability is chopping off the right hand of opponents, and they fight at half-strength forever. That sounds fair.

But only if they steal from your peasants first!

How about they can pick Social Policies without having the prerequisites (besides opening the tree).... so Landed Elite without Oligarchy, Representation without Citizenship, etc.)

Probably way too powerful, to be honest.

Yeah, take a trip around balance lane...

The Babyloian UA will be to that all other Civ abilities are null and void.
Super Powerful Civ UA only available to Deluxe edition buyers, FTW!

If their only power was to void every other power, it would be distinctly un-overpowered, in that it would give all civs the exact same abilities

I've been thinking about this. They've given very little info on Babylon.

Unique Unit would likely be a Bowman because they probably aren't going to think of anything better (and because Archers were extremely important in mesopotamian warfare). I can't think of a second UU (well, aside from pointing out the Chariot/Horse Archer warfare of Mesopotamia, but nothing specifically Babylonian), so a UB could be possible. But the only thing I can think of would be a Ziggaurat and they were far more Sumerian than Babylonian (unless we want to preclude the possibility of Sumer later).

Now for the unique ability. The thing I think of with Babylon is it's enormous cultural and religious influence on mesopotamia, especially with religion.

That being said, the thing most people think of is the Code of Hammurabi. While I'm just ripping off the idea of the Code of Justinian in the expansion ideas thread, I'll suggest it'll be something related to that. Perhaps a courthouse bonus mixed with social policy bonuses.

well i'm thinking that the UB could be hanging gardens

hanging gardens is a wonder:

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Iraq - +1 culture, +1 Great Artist, +3 Happiness, +1 Population in all Cities

Yeah, it's not the Hanging Gardens. In Civ4, they gave them the Garden UB, but, as I understand it, Gardens are in the game elsewhere.

I'm also hesitant to give any kind of unique building that isn't something built on a widescale or at least in more than one city. You can't, for example, give them a UB of "Ishtar Gates". The Ishtar Gate is a real thing and it was only one thing. It's a wall surrounding Babylon. It's Neo-Babylonian and really cool, but that doesn't excuse pretending it was mass-produced for all of their cities.

Depending on what Babylon's civ represents (just Babylon, or all of Mesopotamia?), they could get a Ziggaurat (Sumerian in origin, have it replace a Temple) or Lamassu (Assyrian in origin, the "Winged Bull/Lion" have it replace a monument). Neither one is technically non-Babylonian, since the Old Babylonian Empire would have borrowed the former and the Neo-Babylonian Empire would have borrowed the latter.

So.. there is no detailed info on the nation youre gonna get from Special Edition?

i'm still interested about the special ability of Babylon.

The Special Edition doesn't come with any extra civs. Game-wise you get the Regular Edition. The only extra goodies are in the box, e.g. the figurines, art book, etc. See this post for a detailed description of the Regular, Deluxe and Special Editions.

The real Babylonian special ability is that you must agree to have $10 deducted from your treasury before you are allowed to meet them. :mischief:

The Babylonian UA will be "DLC", once you invent the internetz you will gain continual gold based on your total population.

Don't forget he comes bearing a map. :p

I'm curious too, but I guarantee when somebody knows something it will be its own much-discussed post. No need to bump this, nobody who can tell us knows.
