The Babylonians nuked me on their home island.

Ellipi 1862
I thought I was being clever. A transport with 2 mechanized infantry, a tank, and a couple of artillery pieces. Move a Carrier into range let loose with multiple bombers and moved in with the transport, one mech. infantry jumps in, the transport moves in to the city. One artillery moves out to pick off a wayward enemy settler. Looks like a good beachhead.

Then they NUKED me. All the bombers, and every thing in the city gone. Only the one artillery piece survives the initial devastation. Hangs on for a turn or two, then it too is gone.

To add insult to injury the green weenies aren’t going to clean up their mess, as if global warming isn’t going to affect them.

So the plan: Get a boatload near their island drop a nuke on a city. Take the city, a second nuke on their capital and drive a tank into it. Stopping their space ship construction. Did I fail to mention - space ship.

Has anyone ever seen an enemy Carrier? (Remember this is the CIV – DOS forum. The one that says “CIVILIZATION - Build An Empire To Stand The Test Of Time” on the box, not some wannabe CIV XX for the HAL9000)

Never seen enemy carriers with ships on them. I have seen empty ones though!
I had quite a similar experience once with the aztecs. I managed to get their capital and their spaceship had to return. Then I launched and they didn't do anything, no new spaceship, nor did they attack my capital. In fact they didn't attack me at all.
Silly AI! ;)

Had this experience I went to drop a nuke on Berlin, it didn’t remove all units.

I had noticed earlier in this game in an attack on another city (Peking) the ground units I moved in were not unopposed. I didn’t think anything of it, thinking that I had missed the end of turn message.

I include an example of this phenomenon.

The attachment contains a .SVE & .MAP file.

1) Start Civ Dos with them.
2) To the east west of Berlin sits a mech, inf. and two diplomats.
3) First move one of the diplomats to Berlin and investigate the city

4) Drop the Nuke

5) Use the other diplomat to investigate the city again

Three of their units have survived!

Contrary to the rules:
From Civilization manual (first printing 1991)
Page 36
Nuclear Attacks: Nuclear attacks occur when a Nuclear units attempts to enter a square occupied by enemy units or an enemy city. In either case, all units, regardless of civilization, in the target square and adjacent squares are destroyed. In addition, a city loses half of its population. Nuclear attack can only be stopped by the presence of an SDI Defense improvement in a city.
Page 41
Nuclear 99-0-16 (Rocketry & Nuclear Fission) [160]: a missile weapon armed with a nuclear warhead. A Nuclear unit can only be built after the Manhattan project has been built somewhere in the world. A Nuclear unit may move between cities and Carriers. It is lost if it does not end its turn in a city or on a Carrier, and does not attack. It explodes when it attacks an enemy unit or city. A nuclear attack destroys all military units in the target square and adjacent squares, regardless of who they belong to. Nuclear attacks may also destroy city populations and cause pollution.

Is there a way to keep hitting a city with Nukes until one goes thru, or will they always be stopped?

I usually don't use Nukes, myself, so I don't know.

It almost looks like you can eliminate pollution by deploying some nukes. :crazyeye: First eighteen chimney's, then just one!

That was a city with bad public transport. :nono: So with a smaller population you have fewer cars driving around and less pollution.... As if that would make any sence:lol:

Something is wrong with that picture... look first screen shot Berlin support a settler, then on the image below you see nuke hit the city and the settler is just nearby and then you see the city again and it still support the settler.. oh I got it now while writing... the first settler didn't below to Berlin right? ok then it makes sense.. pretty cool

This is awesome and support my you can maximum kill 10 units in one hit, never more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nWC7ZMDTm8

also stupid of Germany to not home LEI in BER so there be one less unhappy face in LEI ;) well after the nuke that unhappy face was gone hehe
