I am running Win98 (2nd Edition) & need to reformat again. Is there a way to backup the drivers I have? I don't recall where I got all of them...

I have access to a burner and can make a direct connection between 2 computers, but do not have a back-up or zip drive.

The files I need to backup are the NIC driver, and CD-ROM driver. The rest I have.

thx

I can't find a question in your post. Are you asking where to find the drivers?

If you want to know what files the driver is in, check the Control Panel->System->Hardware(?)->Device Manager. In the Device Manager, find the device and click Properties. Find the tab Drives, and then More Information.

I don't know if it's enough to back-up these files, or if you need the original install/inf-file as well?

Hm.. really, I don't know of any specific directory where the drivers are stored in Win 98...

I don't think it should be too difficult to find the drivers on the websites of the companies of your hardware/peripherals...

Why are you reformatting?

I dont think storing drivers would be necessary at all, unless win98SE is not a plug and play aware system.

firstly: make sure you have all the cds and disks that came with your computer, as in normal circumstances, that's where you should go to update drivers after a formating session.
secondly - connecting to windows update: win98 is less secure than NT builds and it should be top priority for you to make it as secure as possible!
thirdly - make notes of your components and their driver versions. then when done formatting and reinstalling, log onto the server of your hardware suppliers and download the latest drivers (like www.nvidia.com for graphics card if you have GForce - just an example of course)

Most of the drivers are in "system"/"system32" directories. If you back them up you'll go far.
