Bamspeedy's OCP (Optimal City Placement)

Trev

There are a TON of things changed since then! I'd post the list but it's enormous. For a start there's now a reasonable editor (not perfect, but a great deal better than the one you have, which we all got in the box).

All kinds of exploits and bugs and crashes got fixed along the way.
Take a look at the CivFanatics patch summary, here

But you can still build the Forbidden Palace and the Palace at the same time...

I usually build my FP where my capital ought to have been, which usually is close to the original capital so build time is reasonable, and then later or at the same time depending on the game situation I rebuild my palace where I ought to have built my FP so that I end up with an ellipse-like empire with the palaces at the two gravity points. Well, modified by the actual map...

Thanks for the tip. Up to now I followed the 4+3/4+2 spacing but this weekend I tried to apply the 3+2 one. The result is that up to now I could win only about 10-15% games at Regent, now I can do it much more often.
You're welcome.

At least for me, most games are decided sometimes between late ancient age to early industrial age. The OCP is at a disadvantage until the middle of the industrial age or so, so by using OCP you effectively handicaps yourself for the decisive part of the game. That's my experience.

I assume when you say you "rebuild" your palace "at the same time" you mean by some form of artificial acceleration i.e. use of a leader or the "palace jump" exploit. Otherwise it makes no sense to build the palace "stone-by-stone" at the same time as building the FP near your old palace - just build the FP at the distant location (4-5 times faster IIRC) and use the 200 shields for the FP to build something else.

(I have done what you describe when the two events were widely spread in time i.e. build the FP as preparation, knowing I'll want to move the palace later, then end up just building it because I captured a very productive, albeit distant, city)

I use the original civ3 cd I purchased, and have never updated with patches, was unaware of significant changes like that ( one palace under construction only) being made to the game

Most of the things people will talk about on civfanatics will be patch specific. I'd suggest getting the patches, as they actually change the game pretty significantly and make the AI and other factors more refined and less prone to bugginess. With patch 1.29f, corruption has been lessened somewhat I believe, and therefore it is more advantageous to build the FP (just one of them) further away from your capital.

Then again, I like your suggestion of building it close, while building a palace in another city. This way, you could potentially just keep expanding the distance between palaces over the years, while maintaining a bit of a jump on wonder production whenever you get a chance... thanks for the new idea! :goodjob:

can you post a diagram like the one in the first post but a little bigger? say with another ring of cities.

ur pattern idea is nice if ur go'n to knit.
city placement = river /resource.
if a ring is needed around ur capitol for defense u've already lost.
also -in multiplayer- linear matched by random (what is there)
is a must in order to simply survive.
