Barbarian dont kill workers and settlers!

Upon reading the manual I discovered that Barbs dont kill you undefended settlers and workers! They capture them, take them to their camp where you can liberate them.

That is a very change. I sometimes sent undefended workers/settlers and if you hit a barb in the mist you can either reload, or be very frustrated and set back.

You have to kind of wonder what those settlers and workers will endure while in captivity. Let's just hope the barbarians are... chivalrous.

Also reloading when something goes wrong is weak.

Agreed. No reload Civ is very fun and a lot more challenging.

I think some 'dueling banjos' music may be playing in the barb camps, just like deliverance ouch!

Then we have to agree to disagree...

Seriously? This again? Everyone has different preferences for pete's sake! It's not weak and it's not less fun, it's simply not your business, you play your way, others play their way, end of story. I don't mean to be rude but I don't know how to put it otherwise. So I apologize in advance...

Pretty sure only workers/settlers are captured; great people, embarked units, and spaceship parts (assuming this last one though it would be an interesting mechanic to be able to capture all the parts for your spaceship) get destroyed.

That would be quite amusing.

The image of a barbarian horde dragging a massive engine behind them with an Elvis strapped to it is just too bizzare.

Im seeing settlers being sent out as sacrifices to the barbs. Settlers cost just 45 hammers with Liberty, and Workers cost a whooping 70 hammers. The Barbarian horde visitation is now a right of passage among my people.:D

Now that is just... wrong... devious, gaming the system, smart, but... wrong. ;)

Whatever. The game is designed to be played without reloading when things go wrong.
Sid has said as much in past interviews.

I like playing that way but not all the time. Sometimes I like a casual game where I'll reload if I forgot to do something or something really bad happens. It does lead to sloppy game play habits though. (At least for me anyway.)

I also love reading gameplay reports and AARs. Those would be rather lame and a whole lot less entertaining in my opinion if the story teller reloaded his/her game when things went wrong.

If you want to play with reloading, that's cool. If you want a real challenge, that's cool too.
