Hey, I was just playing a game and it was pretty far in. Acheron the Dragon hadn't been killed yet. So, I was just messing around with Alazkan and all the sudden the Barbarians get a great general. Then the next turn they get a golden age, so my question is does this happen a lot to you guys. I just thought it was weird because I didn't even know it could happen.

I've seen them get a great general from time to time (I think it's the only great person I've seen the barbs get). I haven't seen the barbs use the golden age thing (then again, I play on chieftain). I doubt the golden age would help them very much (other than a brief production boost) since they don't usually have much of an empire.

the dragons horde provides great general points i believe, and thats the only building they can get that generated GPPs

No, in my last game the barbarian build the Form of the Titans. This wonder gives great general points ass well.

The barbarians can also get a Golden Age if they destroy the Pyre of the Seraphic, which happens fairly frequently if it's within player (human or AI) territory.

And now the really interesting question: Does it even matter?

Did anyone notice increased barbarian activity when they had a Golden Age? I didn't!
Of course, in my recent game I've never had ANY barbarians coming from Acheron's city even though it's only about 8 tiles away.

What about you guys?

Consider the AI's tendency to park HUGE stacks next to Acheron, all frozen with fear trying to attack, and there you have your answer. Anything that sets foot outside the city gets dogpiled, so Acheron's city rarely contributes much to barb activity. All I've ever had attack me from the direction of Acheron's city is the occasional wolf rider.

In one game though Acherons city ended up on the other side of my empire (pangaea map) where it was completely blocked off from the AI. I did get harassed by the periodic wolf rider or other barb that regularily went at me.

Of course though, that isolation allowed me to get at Acheron at my leisure.
