Has anybody ever noticed that at random points in the game barbarians will come out in droves from their encampments? Out will come 20 horsemen at totally random points in time. I've never noticed slightly less than this. They always seem to come in either one or two, or 20 or 30. Thoughts? Questions? Comments? Discuss amoungst yourselves.

It's not entirely random - there is a defined trigger (although knowing it can take a little fun out of the game - PM me if you really want to know the trigger).

Also, the barbarian uprising (in my experience) always comes in groups of 8, either 8 - 16 - 24 depending on whether barbarians are set to roaming, restless, or raging.

I'll have to agree with catt. These attacks are kind of annoying, unless you're really well prepared, 'cause you can get a lot of promotions this way...

I discovered a new way to take use of the barb trigger.

In my latest game (huge map), I was on an island with slightly less than half of the civs. We had no contact with the 10 other ones. So, when the barb horde came without any prior warning, I could conclude roughly how far ahead in tech the other civs were. :)
