Barbarian levels

Currently playing on Emporer as Babylon and I am the tech leader. I have yet to reach riflemen and my most advanced units atm are crossbowmen.

I am now seeing barbarians attack me with riflemen!! I have met all the other civs and I don't see any of the other civ's with such advanced units so it appears the Barbs are tech leaders right now I've also seen CS have advanced units in previous games, but never barbs.

How are Barbs and also CS tech levels worked out in Civ V?

Just because AI's unlock techs for units don't necessary mean they will start using them right away. I've seen pikemen and crossbows running around in modern age for the tech leader AI.

Moreover I seem to recall that the barbarian tech level for units depends on the era that you are in. If you're in the Renaissance era, then barbarians may have renaissance units (such as the rifleman) even if nobody researched that particular tech yet.

The game deside In wich year the barbarians change of weapons what I mean with this you can be in the renaissance but barbarians could have just have medieval weapons

At a certain point the barbarians change weapons dont know which year but thats what i experienced has nothing to do with you're tech lead or current era

First they have: brutes
Second wave: they have archers and brutes
third wave: they have crosbowman
fourth wave: they have musketman
lfifth wave: rifleman
six wave : infantry

As the game progress these units will appear

Didn't see other barbarian units though

A heard that gold maintenance is also determined by the year. This crap has to stop; some games (should) naturally progress at different rates, depending on the overall lay of the land, how much the world is embroiled in war (distracting them from growth), etc. Year number should have nothing to do with it!
