The VD 5.0 component in BAT 1.2 has problems corrected in newer versions of VD. I posted my details in the bug reporting thread. Just thought to let you know. Thank you.

I know achilleszero has done alot of work updating all the models so that they have reasonable polycounts and texture sizes, this should improve performance alot. So I'd recommend updating when the next VD release comes out.

As performance is an issue for one of the players in my civ-group and we are planning on using BAT 1.2, is it possible to update BAT with the newer VD versions manually?

I generally install BUG into CustomAssets, and install VD as a Mod. If you are doing that - I'd:
backup the "BUG Mod.ini",
delete CustomAssets (or rename CustomAssetsBAK)
make a new directory CustomAssets
reinstall BUG into CustomAssets
copy your backed up "BUG Mod.ini" over the newly installed "BUG Mod.ini"
and then install VD 6.1 (I believe its at now) as a MOD.

in your CivilizationIV.ini, change the "Mod =" line to:
Mod = Mods\Varietas Delectat

Also I believe BAT includes a Flags.FPK that you may want to just copy over into VD's Mod directory.

There may also be a way to install VD into customAssets, but I didn't muss about with that. This way seemed the best route for myself.

EDIT: Also EmperorFool has noted in the main BUG thread, another option to install BUG (as a Mod), and then just copy its contents into the Varietas Delecat directory, thus winding up with VD+BUG when you load VD.

I would now hesitate to use BUG 1.2 as is. The changes since VD 5.0 include several animation type fixes and not just new graphics. You might encounter some errors using BAT 1.2 as I did. Good info about VD is in it's thread in the graphics mods forum.

I use BUG + VD + Blue Marble + Better AI together, and everything works functionally.
Maybe you can go this way to enjoy BUG and most updated VD simultaneously.

Yeah, thats basically my setup - though it was the UP (unofficial patch). It looks like BULL will be including (at least) the bug-fixes of BBAI. It would be nice if everyone could come to a common consensus on a semi-official DLL.
Instead of the possibility of BBAI, or BULL+UP, or BULL+BBAI

FYI its best to apply BlueMarble first, then any mods after that.
