BAT 2.0 and multiplayer

Hello,

My girlfriend and I play BTS quite a bit together. She's 5,000 miles away right now, so teaming up against evil AIs is really helpful to the relationship. :D

I found (and loved) BUG some time ago, and then tried out BAT and had a great time. I finally got a chance to install BAT on her computer a couple of weeks ago. I know we need the same mod loaded to play multi together, and I had BAT 1.2 and a 200 MB/day download limit, so it took a while to get BAT 2.0 downloaded....

Now we have the same mod, but when we meet up in the Internet lobby, she can't see a game I make, and I can't see a game she makes (just as if one of us had the mod loaded and the other didn't). We have to unload the mod to play together, which is rather too bad.

So: any ideas why multiplayer's not working for us?

- Could it be because I have old BUG/BAT stuff hanging around? If so, where should I look for it and delete it?
- Kind of relatedly, the first time I used BAT I downloaded Blue Marble separately and merged it in, and I remember having to hack a few files to make sure it worked with BAT. Do I have to remove the old Blue Marble?
- Could it be because I have the Steam version of BTS and she doesn't?

Any thoughts or hints would be greatly appreciated!

Copy the BAT Mod folder from the My Docs/My Games/BTS/Mods directory to the Program Files/Firaxis/Civ 4/BTS/Mods directory. For some reason MultiPlayer doesn't work properly unless installed in the Program Files, and the BAT Mod is still using the old installer which doesn't install in the Program Files directory.

You shouldn't have to change anything else.... BTW - BAT 2.1 was just released, and is really worth the upgrade.

Did you get BUG to work multiplayer with her? If so, we should be able to get BAT to work as well.

Thanks for replying to me, guys. I will get back to you when my girlfriend gets a chance to install the mod. I sent her very explicit directions, and she loves the idea of all these tweaks, but she's not very technically minded, and she'd rather spend 20 minutes playing more Civ than having me talk her through installing the mod from across an ocean.

I did get a chance to play BAT 2.1 a bit, and enjoyed it so far (though I miss the Viking archers with their flaming arrows!).

Hi alerum66 & EmperorFool,

My girlfriend finally got a chance to install the BAT Mod 2.1 folder in c:\prog...\Firaxis...\Sid Me...\Beyond...\Mods. She loaded it up just fine, but when we met in the Internet lobby ... she still couldn't see the game I created, and vice versa. We both could see "BAT Mod 2.1" in the upper right-hand corner. If I play single-player, the mod works great. If she plays single player, it works great.

So we're in the same spot we were when I started all this, just with an updated BAT mod in Program Files.

Any other ideas?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Alerum and I spent quite a bit of time this morning trying to get a BAT multiplayer game going, but we could never see each others' games. We were able to get BUG and BUG+BULL games to go just fine--just not BAT. We still don't know why, sadly. The only big difference that BAT has is modular XML loading needed by Varietas Delectat.

At this stage, your best bet would be to install BUG as a mod and install BULL into BUG. You won't get the additional pretty graphics, but at least you'll get the interface features.

I really appreciate the both of you duplicating the problem I found! I know you guys have done so much wonderful work already--and you probably have a slew of other features to implement--but I hope you'll put this on the list to fix for the future. In the meantime, I'll try to get BUG and BULL on her computer....

For multiplayer, am I right that I'll need to do BULL installation option 2 in the README (copy into MyDocs\...\CustomAssets and replace the DLL in Program Files\...\Assets) and BUG installation option 2 (also into CustomAssets)? Or should I go the other route.

Again, thanks so much for taking the time to help us out!

Do the Multiplayer installation of BUG and then install BULL into BUG's Assets folder. Tell it to replace all files, but of course no files will actually be replaced. Good ol' Windows always looking out for the user!
