I downloaded BAT last night for the first time and I enjoy it immensely. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the project and please keep up the amazing work.

I did have a couple of unit graphics issues with the game. Keep in mind that I'm using a laptop with a bunk graphics card, so the problem might be on my end, but I figured I'll post the problems and see if anyone has any other input. Also, I did not do an extremely thorough search for these issues in this forum, so if it has been covered before, please just point me to the corresponding thread. :)

I'll give some info about the game just in case it's necessary:

Medium and Small map, Temperate and Medium, Standard, Monarch, Epic. I 'randomed' into Native America.

1) The first issue I noticed is that some units will 'flip' between two different unit styles at seemingly random times. When I watched closely it almost always happened at the end of the turn. Sometimes it would change back to the 'correct' model (I assume) at the beginning of the turn, sometimes it would switch back when the unit was activated, and some times not at all. This would happen with workers and all military units.

2) The second issue was with my (Native American) knight unit. The model appeared as a giant, red sphere of death!! While I think this is awesome, I'm fairly certain this is not what the artists intended for the unit.

Thanks again, and I hope you can help or maybe this will help you. Peace.

My guess is that Civ is trying to play nice with the limited memory of your graphics card. All of the skins for these units need to be downloaded to the GC memory to draw the screen. During other player's turns (do you have Friendly Moves turned on?) it may swap out the art style to keep all the units the same?

In any case, there's nothing in BAT that should change unit art styles on-the-fly.

Looks like the art is missing or specified incorrectly. The unit art comes from Varietas Delectat 7.0 (and there's a 7.5 out already). It will probably be fixed in the next BAT update, but it couldn't hurt to post this bug to the VD thread.

Thanks for taking the time to reply EF.

If nobody else is reporting a bug like this I will assume it's my machine and just live with it. Thinking just now it might possibly have something to do with the 'Animations Frozen' option. I'm going to have to check that one out.

hi
Same problem here
3 red blobs instead of Native American knights
is there a (easy) way to fix it?

Same problem here, I also posted it in the bugs thread. Native American Knights have a red blob. I had no problems before. I wasn't sure if it was BAT or 3.19 patch which caused the issue.

I don't mind the problem if I knew how to fix it, such as downloading a unit and changing some XML or whatever. It is only the Native American Knight and also there is a problem with the leader Washington, his eyes have pink eyeshadow.

Pink graphics are the result of missing or mislabeled (in the XML) graphic files. BAT uses Varietas Delectat for most of the extra graphics which has new releases pretty frequently. You could upgrade VD in BAT to the latest version to fix these issues--and no doubt pick up some new ones. :mischief:

hi there. Thanks for your answer.

I think that is the fix I am looking for, but I don't know how to do that though. I just downloaded the BAT .exe file.

Have I missed a download somewhere?

No, you haven't missed anything. Alerum creates BAT by taking the latest versions of BUG, VD, and parts of BlueMarble, plus a few other mods I believe, and merges them so that they work together. You might be able to download the latest VD and merge it with BAT yourself by copying its files over those in BAT. Or you can wait for the next release of BAT.

Thanks for your answer.

If I download and install VD which folders do I need to copy and where to?
(It has to be installed because it is an .exe)

At present BAT has installed itself in My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS\BAT Mod 2.0\

So do I copy folders into there? Which ones?
I am guessing I need to copy something like Knight into the assets folder? also is it Native Americans specific? Which folder/files for Washington leaderhead?

Sorry if it might seem obvious to you, but I don't want to break anything in BAT. (Or CIV for that matter)

thanks again for your help.

Each folder within the Mods folder is a separate mod, and all of its files will be in an Assets folder within. Install VD to create a new folder in Mods, probably something like "Varietas Delectat 7.5". Copy all of the files in its Assets folder into BAT's Assets folder, clicking "Yes to All" when asked to replace files.

If you do anything that breaks BAT, you can always delete BAT's folder and reinstall it, but the above should be all that's needed.

Thanks very much EmperorFool, I think thats done the trick (I won't know for sure till I get to knights but there has not been any errors yet)

unfortunately that causes other problems. I thought it had worked at first which confuses me even more that now I get a lot of game crashes. I had to delete BAT and reinstall so now I am back to square one with it. Thanks for trying to help me sort it out anyway.

Unfortunately, this has been par for the course with VD. It has a lot of graphics, and it must be difficult to verify that all of the references in the XML are correct with each new version.
