BATTLE ENGINE - The most unrealistic aspect of the game.

I dont see how moving all your units at once gives you more satisfaction than moving each one seperately.

If I have to do something I don't particularly enjoy, I prefer to be able to do it quickly and easily than slowly and with many separate actions.

So, even for you, the combat system is not entertaining. Well, it's supposed to be entertaining. This is a game.

I'm finding with Civ 4 what I've found with every other version of Civ so far: the early stages of the game are fun and interesting, but somewhere in the middle it all bogs down and turns into a dreary chore.

I suppose I could tolerate the game being unrealistic if only it would stay fun and interesting all the way through.

I partly agree with you here. I too find that the game really bogs down in the modern era. (Especially after the only research I am doing is "future tech" :P what a stupid tech!!) And, I also have been playing the game since it's inception. Why??? Because the first few eras are just SOOOOOO fun!!!!!

Also, I am not a war monger. I like "designing" a civilization. This means that I would love a combat system that was quicker!!! I don't even really care about realism. (The most unrealistic thing about the game in my opinion is that no matter how much you change history you still end up with a civilization that has our current, modern values.)

All this being said, I enjoy all the other aspects of the game way toooo much to even think of not playing it (to answer someones question about why anyone would play if they don't enjoy combat). What do I do about it? I make suggestions. That's all we really can do.

:suicide: It is a GAME.

Get a life and just play. You could not take the city because you did not send enough troops, big deal  keep practicing and you might get it right next time.

Get this through your head :hammer:

Publius,
I found this bug in an opposite way, too.
If your Modern Armor attacks an AI's city guarded by helicopters and Mech.inf's , the helicopters rise to defend first, regardless of their hit points (just because they have a 100% vs. armored units ability).

Hm, let me check this in Worldbuilder, too

Strange. I thought the toughest would defend. Well, maybe Firaxis is interested in your report. I would truly like to see what they respond :)

Well, as much as I dislike the idea of one unit being able to withstand a barrage from weaker units gathered as masses, my biggest peeve so far is this:

(Example) (3)Horse archers attack, (2)war elephants defend. Each side loses one in the initial barrage.. so why the heck does the 2nd remaining horse archer just sit there like a fool while his partner is attacked and killed? Shoot the thing! Heh.
