And in this thread, I'll actually submit some games!
The idea is that I do want to fill some holes, but my standards for 20k games are too high, and my abilities probably a little low. So I chose standard map and deity difficulty, as both are a little underrepresented. I rolled a few starts, and when I saw one I liked, I played, and would tailor victory type to the civ. After a few, I got the Celts, which seemed like fun game, but I was boxed in altogether too quickly. But I still liked the idea, so 80% water and pangaea.
After not too long, this is what I got:
After some thought, I decided it would do. Expanded fairly quickly (and built a granary first, not warrior, despite what the screenshot suggests), and didn't build a unit until just before getting iron hooked up, right around 1750 BC. Built four or five Gallic Swordsmen, and went after my nearest neighbor, the Mongols, and went at it. 1500 BC I think was when my GA began. The capital could do 2-turn GS without a problem. At 1225 BC, my 10th or 11th elite gave me him:
After looking at my empire and getting an army, I realized BC victory was doable.
I got a couple more leaders, but in risky (read stupid) decisions on my part, I lost two of my three armies shortly after they were created. This can't have helped my date. But I managed to capture the ToA around 200 BC, and fill some gaps with settlers, and passed the domination limit at 50 BC, getting (just barely) a domination victory in 30 BC. With this map, I probably could have done 250 BC easily enough, but as this was my first domination victory above regent, it is still fairly satisfying. And now I have a game submitted!
