Bede04C-The Griddle (C3C1.22Emperor)

Well, I was taking a nice walk along the canals of Amsterdam, admiring the big shiny buildings, and doing deals with the Greeks, when Hiawatha declared war.

Look around for an ally and realize that Hiawatha and Pachuti have a Protection Pact, not good. A slip of the finger and we are at war with Inca. He won't accept an alliance so with some trepidation sign an MPP with him.

Well the bloody Inca take advantage of the agreement and attack Greece, who responds in kind and so now we are at war with Greece and the more than 1000gpt he's paying for technology evaporates like morning dew in the desert. Ho-hum, Cathage will turn on Greece for Atomic Theory, so have at it Hannibal.

Avoid moving against Iro until the MPP with Inca kicks in, which it does when Hiawatha flights a single bomber at our fortress line.

So now it's world war. Us against the Iro and the Greeks, Iro against us, the Greeks and Carthage, Inca against Iro, Greece and Carthage.

First step is blockade the Greek town on our western coast, protecting the western marches, then reduce it with bombers and capture with no casualties. Once Inca MPP triggers bomb the stuffing out of Grand River and watch Inca knights capture it.

Then turn to Tonawanda, blockade it against advancing Inca, then take the town, no casualties.

Inca capture a Carthaginian town south of Cumae. It needs a protective blockade so there is no attempt by Carthage to retake it otherwise we face war with Carthage too.

Greeks capture the town SW of Rotterdam so sign an RoP with Carthage and move across form Amiens to capture it.

We can take Grand River next turn. Afgter that we can jsut sit back and watch everybody else slug it out waiting for peace to break out.

SETI and Internet done.

Victory Date now 1762.

Got it.

These turns were starting to get a bit boring so a world war will be a nice side show. :)

So far not so good. :(

As soon as I pressed end turn I was at war with the Incans and the Carthaginians due to the sub bug.

Each turn is taking a long time. Does anyone have any objections to cutting it to 5 turns per set?

Whatever fits.

I slogged through the war turns, then the peaceful turns played very quickly so I did 10 turns in the end.

As I stated above, I very quickly found myself at war with everyone. A Carthaginian frigate tried to sail near Amiens and ran straight into a sub. At the same time an Incan ship hit a sub as it tried to leave al-Kaf, the town we were trying to blockade to stop the Carthaginians from attacking it. :crazyeye:

I took the opportunity to capture al-Kaf, then turned my attention to an Incan SoD. I later took Salamanca, Grand River, Herekleia and Rusuccuru. This last city now serves as a link between Amiens and the Rotterdam group.

I managed to plant spies with the Iroquois and the Carthaginians. My attampts with the other two failed twice (attempts were 5 turns apart).

I managed to get 3 leaders which all became tank armies.

In 1730(6), I got bored of the attritional fighting so I signed some peace deals:
Peace with Greece: Get Rocketry + Amph War + 149g. Give Nuke Power.
Peace with Incans: Get 700g.
Peace with Iroquois: Get 860g.
By the last turn the Carthaginians still wouldn't see me, so we are still at war with them.

To prevent the sub bug from catching us out again I have moved all of our subs to towns or under ships.

After the peace deals I decided to switch on research. I know it is too late to matter, but I felt like getting a new tech. We get Genetics in 1. We have 7997 gold in the treasury, earning +172gpt.

I upgraded lots of units. All fighters are now jet fighters. All infantry were mechanized. Both guerillas are now TOW infantry. I also upgraded some of the flaks to mobile SAMs.

The Greeks are pushing S, though they have just signed peace with the Carthaginians so they will go no further. It is lucky we get the win soon or they might be a problem.

Roster:

M60 - will finish in 6 turns.

Is anyone going to finish this game?

Iroquois declared on us at the end since they had an MPP with Carthage, but no real excitement. Final score 4846. Just built some units and was one turn away from finishing Cure for Cancer. Good game everyone!

Well done, all. Especially nice after the pasting we took in the "A" game.

Interesting how it all turned out. The "B" game went from Space Race to Domination in 30 turns. And once we set our course to 20K in this one we got there with only a couple of speed bumps.

:thanx: for joining in.

Thanks for the game everyone. :)

Comparing this one to the 'A' game shows just how important the early period is. I'm sure we could have done better in that one if not for being stranded on a peninsula.

good game!
it would have been even better if some idiot didn't screw the variant by building a settler... :suicide:

we probably could have finished it faster with going for domination, but why missing the opportunity to finish 20k in 1762 AD.
