This month's game is one where a very early finish by conquest is possible. If you're new to these forums, you may not realise:

** THE EARLY FINISH BONUS SCORE THAT CIV2 GIVES YOU IS NOT COUNTED FOR THE GOTM SCORE **

There's a good reason for this: the bonus score does not change with population size or time of finish. I think it only depends on map size and the number of civs. Thus, it can't represent a true indication of differences in performance.

I got caught with this in my first game, GOTM5. If you play well and finish early, you might want it reflected in your GOTM score. The only current way to do this is to leave 1 small AI city, put some units around it to keep the AI in and barbarians out, then "sim city" the rest of the world and win by spaceship ASAP.

The stupid method the civ game uses to calculate the bonus score came as a surprise to me and the information is not available on the Submit page. So, if you want a high GOTM score this month, I hope you enjoy farming.

Thanks for pointing that out, noughmaster.

However, I should tell you that this is all mentioned in the rules page . If you've read that page, you know enough.

Yes, you're right, but I'll bet most new people are like me and haven't read the rules as closely as they probably should.

But you will get points for early finish by GotM rules.....so an early finish is still smart!

I checked the rules and there is a part of the formular that I don't unserstand.

The PNP is clear but what does the '50^' mean? I never understood that '^' symbol.
Must be a deficit in my public education.

Good luck all!!!

The ^ symbol can mean a number of things (XOR among them), but in this formula I think it represents exponentiation. (Perhaps should be used?)

The caret symbol (in standrd algebraic notation) means to "raise to the power of". in this case, 50^PNP means "Fifty raised to the power of PNP". And PNP is a ratio, by the way.

It is this function that gives a good boost to a score for an early finish. Conversely, it can humble a 10,000 score in AD 2020!!! So to get a high GOTM score, finish as early and as large as you can! But it is a balancing act, LOL
