If you could make new beliefs, what would you add?

Here are some of my ideas:

Secret Societies:
Founder
Greater Resistance to tech stealing

Monastic Learning:
Follower
+1 Beakers from Temples

Seminary School:
Follower
+1 Faith from Universities

Charity:
Follower
+1 Happiness from Granaries & Hospitals

Martyrdom:
Enhancer
+10 Faith when Missionaries are killed

Spiritual Weapons:
follower
+3 Faith from Forges in cities with 5+ followers

One True God:
Pantheon
5% combat bonus vs. civs following different religions

Trickster God:
Pantheon
+1 Gold from Shrines

Good suggestions . It seems that this is a nice thread to start gathering suggestions for new Beliefs .About the "Martyrdom" belief,I think it would be much more interesting if such belief gives something like 150% of the current faith cost of producing a missionary when they are killed .

Here are a few of mine:

Burning Of The Heretics
Founder
+10 Faith/turn when razing a city of another religion

Fasting
Follower
Starving cities lose food 33% slower with this religion

Feast Days
Follower
'We Love The King Day' lasts 50% longer in cities with this religion

Holy Festivals
Founder
Cities produce +25% faith during Golden Ages

Religious Segregation
Enhancer
Foreign religions spread 33% slower in your cities

Disciples
Enhancer
Receive a free Missionary near the Holy City when you purchase a Great Person with faith

The Martyrdom idea is hilarious! Don't try to convert your enemies, just go to war and keep throwing Missionaries at their troops as advance scouts and let them get hacked to bits for a net faith bonus. It seems like it's probably too abusable though - its basically an infinite faith generator :)

The Burning of Heretics is funny as well

But Missionaries are purchased with faith, so it's easy to balance the value to prevent exploits.

Here's some more:

Path of the Righteous:
Follower
10% combat bonus when adjacent to 2 or more enemies

Epic Sagas:
Pantheon
destroying Barbarian camps yields 10 Culture & 10 Faith

Gift Givers:
Enhancer
Great Merchants act as missionaries when conducting trade missions

Enclaves:
Founder
Your Embassies to other civilizations put religious pressure on their capitals

Cult of Assassins:
Follower
+100 Faith when destroying enemy Great Generals

One True God could be changed to One True Faith, so that it isn't paradoxical with polytheistic religions.

Being paradoxical to polytheism is the point of the Belief. The whole pantheon is one god and they are willing to fight about it, hence the combat bonus.

Here's my suggestions for Islam or similar religion (not already included in the game or in this thread, benefit values could be tweaked):

Predestination (Founder) - +1 happiness from every city following the religion

Call to Prayer (Founder) – Temples provide +2 happiness, +1 faith in cities with 5 followers

Congregational Prayers (Founder) +2 faith, +1 happiness from every 10 followers

Animal Sacrifice (Founder) +1 faith, 5% growth in all cities (+2 food from sheep, cattle, deer)

Knowledge as Worship (Follower) - Temples provide +1 faith, +1 science in cities with 5 followers (probably above-mentioned seminary could replace this)

I was also wondering if it would be possible to create a mod that would incorporate these ideas and allow founders to rename their Pantheon (as a starter religion), beliefs and great people in game (similar to renaming cities and religions). The mod could perhaps have hundreds of "re-nameable" default beliefs to choose from with different benefits. Those who don't feel like changing anything could go with the defaults as the modders intended and others could receive same benefits with different labels.

If people like it, then modders could take it even further with having the renaming/benefit-tweaking/custom art option when setting up a game.

If the developers have already used customizable religion labels as a selling point why not take it a few steps further? It also makes more sense to rename "beliefs" to "practices" or call them "practices/beliefs" or just have these sections be re-nameable too, so as to give players with religious sensitivities (of any religion or inclination) more room (not sure how "religious settlements" is a belief, but in a general sense of the word it could be).

Religion is a sensitive topic, and yes this is a game, but what game other than Civ5 Gods' & Kings can now boast of such sophisticated and customizable religion mechanics that seem to appeal to so many different people in many different ways?
