Incremental rush buying(IRB) is a love/hate thing. The efficient use of gold is wonderful, but it takes quite a number of mouse clicks to do it. I count 26 clicks and a fair amount of mouse movements to get from a warrior to 40 shields on a caravan.
In order to help with this problem, I purchased a Belkin NOSTROMO N52 game pad(buy.com, $19.99). It has a number of keys which can be programmed to emulate a series of keyboard entries. I have set up one key to rush to the 10 shield(warrior) level, one for 20(phalanx),one for the 30(diplomat) level, and one for the 40(settler) level. If I want 40 shields, I hit the 4 keys in succession. This is a nice improvement from 26!
This is a work in progress. I know there will be problems when units become obsolete, and the end objective becomes freights, instead of caravans. I would be interested in some suggestions along the following lines:
1) What IRB sequences and techniques should be implemented?
2) How to make the macros independent of units available?
All of this should be able to be done with keyboard entries. Mouse clicks can be emulated, but I don't know to move the position of the mouse. I am working on CIV 2.42, but It should be good for CIV MPE also.

Wow, thats a creative idea. What's an IRB? (joking!). Yup, that is a tedious part of the game, but important, especially early on.

I'd just do it by levels.... like an IRB for 10--> 50:

1. Fill 10's row
2. Fill 20's row
3. Fill 30's row
4. Fill 40's row
5. Fill 50's row.

Do this for the common multiples:
10-->50 (which is also a common IPRB for 60 & 70, BTW)
20-->50
30-->50

10-->40
20-->40 (which is also a common IPRB for 50 & 60, BTW)
30-->40

That would probably be a timesaver.
