Remembers laughter
I've made it to 1400 AD and the Modern age in my game, hopefully I'll be able to launch around 1700 AD, for 8th place.
I'm playing as Korea on Huge Chieftain. I'm doing strict 10CC, but I did mis-click and capture one town, which I abandoned immediately.
It's a Pangaea map, but there are two large offshore islands, one with the Mongols on it, that has all the Furs, and the other with the Arabs, and all the Ivory; that means I can only have six luxuries, but I've built happiness buildings and I don't need the luxury slider. I did have to run 10% lux earlier on, but for a long time I've been at 100% science with massive negative gpt. Occasionally I would lower the slider for the last couple of turns to get a bit of spare change for building embassies, and the odd upgrades.
I met Russia early on and traded for Pottery, built a Granary and then my nine settlers from the capital. I settled widely with no overlap - I got three native luxuries, Iron and Horses.
My research was Writing - Col - (Literature by mistake) - Philo - Republic; Philo in 975 BC and only two turns of Anarchy (effectively one turn with interturn revolution). I don't remember the details of techs traded for. We hit the middle ages in 430 BC and I got Invention for my free tech.
In 30 AD my Golden Age was triggered by the Mausoleum.
In 520 AD we hit the industrial era, I got Sanitation, which I was planning to research anyway if I hadn't got it. At this stage I paused negative spending for 20 turns since I needed to use some gpt to get Steam Power. Obviously I had no Coal, but there was a source nearby to colonise. Before too long, Russia built a town that would encroach on the Coal colony so the fighting started. I had traded for Chivalry at some point so I had Knights, but I decided to detour and research Mil Trad as well. I also detoured for Music Theory to get Bach's for a happiness boost.
Anyway, from then on I just declared war on anyone who got in my way, and colonised luxuries and resources as they became available.
I just managed to get the last couple of Scientific AI down to one town (and had eliminated the non-Sci civs on the main continent) in time for the discovery of Flight in 1390 AD. During the big picture I made peace with everyone; nobody got Rocketry, but that was my free tech. From ToE I got Miniaturization and Synthetic Fibers (maybe I should've taken a more expensive second tech, but I did want Modern Armor). I had to use a small gpt payment to get Fission from the Babs, and that let me get Computers and Ecology. After the big picture I eliminated everyone except the Greeks, who have a couple of towns on the Mongolian island. I've temporarily reduced science spending to let me upgrade my Tanks to Modern Armor. Internet is due in three turns (the longest prebuild available was Universal Suffrage).
I have 10 Transports ready to load and invade Mongolia, and after that I'll move on to Arabia, I'd like to be able to have the option to finish the conquest before Launch.
