What do you think is the best Wonder in Civ 1?

I had to leave 1 wonder out, decided that to be Shakespeare's Theatre.

p.s. I voted for Pyramids because you can switch to a different government very early in the game. With that you can research and grow faster than the others and build all the other Wonders earlyer.
J.S.Bach's is very good too.

I like Women's Suffrage since it makes it easy for a Democracy to be at war. I also like the science oriented wonders since delivery bonuses are small in civ1 and the AD research penalty makes late game research slow.

Pyramids. Even Sid recognised this and made the power come later in Civ2 (as Statue of Liberty) because it skewed the game too much towards the Pyramid owner.

Without question, the pyramids.

Because having democracy or communism in the early years is good.

This is just such a huge advantage.

MANHATTEN PROJECT!! you get to build nukes and nuke everyone. Of course there is a big price to pay (irrigating all the swamps that appear :( And besides , i seem to stay in despotism throughout the entire game. I tried going to the other govt's but i don't when to change to them.

Some of the ancient Wonders are indeed very good (especially when you get an extra MP for your ships, or the extra trade via Colossus). However, I find Hoover Dam the best overall Wonder. I tend to play with large continent sizes, and since I have 5-6 cities on my main continent, it's great to not have to build a bunch of Hydro plants from a financial perspective. And the reduced pollution has really saved me at times.

Welcome tony!

Question: if you play with large continent sizes, how come you have so few cities on your main one? In the succession game we're playing, I think we have 26 cities on our main continent!

Women's Suffrage.

Allows me to stay in a Republic. There I can enjoy raking up cash bolster science, and spoil my people while killing anything that moves.

Remember, this is the game where you can stay at war with a rival by simply not speaking to them. ;-) So no pesky senate to deal with.

Actually: Colossus. The guy who taught me Civ I (when I was very young) told me to always build the colossus as soon as possible. The advice kind of stuck with me, and I still tend to build it quickly, even in civ III :)

Suffragette, don't go to war without it!

I like Darwins Voyage best. When I play on easier levels, I tend to stick with Depotism as my government, and science seems to get slower by the time you can build it, and having those three instand discoveries comes in pretty handy.

I shall agree with everyone who likes Pyramids best. But I always switch to the Communism only because I am always at war with everyone who threatens me (you know the CPU's manner of talking  ). I also think that is the best government in all the Civilizations!;)
