I'm playing games with random civs. Hopefully I'll get a better feel for them. My zulu game was a little off because I started alone on an icy island, so the zulu traits weren't very useful. The japanese conquered an entire continent, they were huge. And they came after me. OK, end of that game 
Now I'm in the middle of a good one with the chinese. They're a great civ, I killed the romans with little or no fuss, and got a golden age to boot, making me one of the 3 most powerful civs (most culture too). Then came a very long time when everyone was at peace!! and all had right of passage and trade too! Years passed, and then Egypt, my trusted neighbour broke the ROP and started war with me. They sent war chariots against my musketeers and riders! Then alliances broke out and war ensued. I took they're 4 best cities and have now made peace, but the Indians aren't quite so forgiving. Currently they have 2 cities left. Ok, i won't bore you further, but needless to say, I'm in a good position, lots of land and it looks like a new era of peace too.
Ok, so chinese...I'm quite impressed. Militaristic is good, and if you've been away from it for too long, give it another go
