Best civs/land:

I've played windows/civilization for 2yrs, and I noticed that certain civs start on better land...--the French/Greek seem to start on the best land/islands-->>those w/resources/rivers/grasslands...etc/. Is it random or do they just start on better land?

If you play Earth, they always have the same starting location.(Quite logical, if you ask me )
On a random map, they can get a bad starting location.It's all random.

I guess it's because certain civs always get their starting location first. The civs that are last in the order usually gets the worst starting position since there aren't any good ones left. This is compensated by extra techs.

Your Scientists don't have yet discovered 'smart posting' in my opinion..

When I choose the Egyptians\Aztecs I get Plains and some desert.
When I choose the French\German\Roman\Russian I get greenlands and close to the poles.

But its not accurate

That logic kind of escaped Sid Meier when he made Civ3 though I noticed.
