What is the best wonder of the early part of the deity game?
collossus?
pyramids?
great wall?
great library?
hanging gardens?
Oracle?

Why?

Sorry
I cannot vote...since my favourite early wonder is not on your list
(MPE = info and diplomacy rule  )

Technically,MPE is a Renaissance wonder :p

Hanging Gardens...but it depends

Definetely great library. i usually leave out the useless (virtually) sciences such as ceremonial burial and therefore the great library is good to pick them up:scan:

On diety level, it should always be HG, not even close. Many people actually play games where building HG is not allowed because it gives such a huge advantage. The person who can build that first can expand their cities so much quicker in the beginning of the game to take an early lead. Plus, it's cheap. :)

Well, my number one goal in the beginning is usually monarchy, and for that I need ceremonial b. The difference between monarchy and despotism on the higher levels is huge.
My favorite would be HG.

I found that paramids work very well, and i have never used HG in deity but after thinking about it they sound good.
I would like both wonders in the early game. If i were to build them both should i do it in the same city or 2 different ones? and should i use caravans to build them?

I choose the colossus, since i always make a ssc...
Though the hanging gardens are a must aswell.
When i get the gardens i really don't care alot about the pyramids anymore, since then the growth of the cities is mainly due to WLTCDays...

Hanging gardens, close to the Colossus.
In lower levels it's the Pyramids, but in deityearly city grouwth can sometimes be more of a problem than an advantage.

In lower levels, ie, king and below, pyramids are great, mainly b/c they never expire. But on diety level, pyramids almost hurt more than they help early in the game b/c of the growth. In multiplayer games also (ie, 3-4 players), GW is one the best, if allowed to build. It's always a nice feeling having walls on every city while expanding. :)

PS - I'm always up for MP games, especially on weekends, just add me to your ICQ if interested! (271666903)

... but the question was 'best wonder in the early part of a deity game'
Anyway, I know you like it (and I don't dislike HG either  )

You really don't need the GL. The best wonder : HG. Then put the focus of your research to Mike's. After that switch to republic and let your cities celebrate. Trade, trade, trade (overseas trade with foreign civs) - you will be the tech leading civ. So the GL will be a waste of shields. MP is much better - you can trade techs and maps and search allies- and trading teachs reduces your science beaker cost.
Pyramids are nice to have, but I prefer Colossus (because of the trade bonus).

Yeah the Col & SSC go first. I usually don’t get pottery in any urgent fashion & HG doesn’t happen accordingly. I also usually only get one ancient wonder, but with reasonable play can get most of the rest later on.

Oh by the way, in a similar poll oedo opted for LH as his favorite ancient wonder. Any reason for the exclusion?

It's really a tough call between the HG and the Colossus -- both are essential to establishing the World Trade city. And while the HG is almost as essential as Mike's Chapel at managing unhappiness at Deity, in the end my vote must go to the Colossus given the amount of trade and money that I eventually before the development of Flight.

HG is not that importent! In the begining the cities can be small...
GL on the other way is very important beacouse it gives you alot of tech's and it is important that the computer won't get it!!!

I like HG since it lets you build as many cities as you want without getting extra happiness problems. Just keep cities at size 2 and build a warrior for martial law where it is needed and no city will be in disorder.

The Colossus isn't that important early in the game when cities are small.

After a while you'll be having one red guy and one black guy in the beginning, then all the cities will end up with one unhappy and one content. This could easily be solved though by moving out the defender of the city:)

Yes!

And that is why Republic or even Democracy is a piece of cake with HG. Since the double unhappy citizens become happy with HG, size 2 cities can have units outside without causing any extra unhappiness in Democracy.
