I've heard that Monarchy is the best, but I've used Democracy (not very effective). Others use Communism, but I don't like the universal corruption. What do you think is the best for wartime?

Communism is better if you don't plan on keeping every (or any)city you take in war...but if your goal is Domination, Communism will kill your core cities' productivity.

Excuse me for being slow, but what's "universal corruption"?

Republic takes the prize. All of the (useful) benefits of a democracy without the crippling war weariness.

Deposition then straight to Democracy. Use border skirmishes until Universal Sufferage is complete... I refuse to use communism/monarchy (idealigolical point for me). Once U.S. is finished war weariness isnt a big problem.

I woted democracy

I use monarchy in early wars (ancient era)
Then republic for short middle age wars (until they beg for mercy - even though I seldom fight)
As soon as possible I change to democracy...and stay there...without U.S. that proves a challenge...but I often get the US (and often give peace a chance, as I am playing the Greeks most of the time)

:sheep:

I suppose communism is OK for an empire that is not wide-spread
Monarchy will function all-right...but no optimal production.
I suppose Republic is easier to control than democracy if you lose the wonder race.

well, should have woted republic...but with US, democracy is excellent:goodjob:

Sorry, I meant communal. (you know, when ALL your cities get the same amount of corruption:eek: )

I am almost always at war, and therefore don't have much time to change governments from democracy/republic to monarchy/communism, (unless I am a religious civ). Therefore I just use monarchy all the time unless I have lots of luxuries, universal suffrage or other happiness-producing improvement, in which case I change to democracy.

a well-managed monarchy is as good as a republic. 3 cheap units in every city, marketplaces and all the luxuries...and add smith trading for free support.

when i play a score game i never built cathedrals or colloseums...just straight from temples/libraries/marketplaces.

if u are going to be conquering for a long time and are not religious u really can't afford the 4-7 turns of anarchy everytime a new govt is available. it's one of the weaknesses of the AI...switching govts every now and then. i love it when they switch to communism in the modern era and therefore give me 2-4 turns where they are completely vulnerable.

Where`s my vote option????

Whatever I`m in!

Usually, wars end fast with me, so I don`t care. By the time I volontarily go to war as a democracy I have so many lux and wonders and happiness buildings I can survive even a drawn out on.
Essentially, I avoid war between switching to demo and having Infantry (or even Tanks+Bombers). Aside from that I don`t care

I wasn't aware that this was even still in dispute:

Monarchy. Hands down.

The ONLY time that Communism would be better would be if you happened to have EXACTLY the optimum number of cities somehow scattered around the world and they were fully equipped with all the production bonuses so that you never need to rush projects. The larger your empire is, the worse Communism becomes, and by the time Communism is an option, whipping is SO wasteful compared to cash buying that it's almost not an option.

Republic is almost as good as Monarchy, but ONLY if you provoke them into attacking you. If you want to fight wars as the aggressor and/or plan on it lasting a long time, Monarchy beats any and all other options.
