I think the best Industral defender is the Infantry. With 6/10 stats It can crush pretty much anything ,Until tanks. So, what is YOUR Industral defender?

um... isn't this kind of a 50/50 question? The only two 'IA defenders' are the rifleman and infantry, and I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to vote rifleman :dubious:

EDIT: ok so there is the paratrooper, I guess... but his use is limited, too.

Infantry on a Barricaded Mountain Fortress

I like to fight mechanized infantry when I'm in the industrial age. O.K, maybe not.

Depends on the scenario....

In Normal Civ III, Infantry, no questions about it.... Even if the AI gets tanks, if you have enough artillery and have all cities connected by rails, you can red-line a whole stack of tanks and finish them off with Cavalry or Guerrillas in no-time flat!

Best defender? A good cavalry army or workers railing their way towards ex-enemy town, so cavalry could advance. So mostly cavalry or no-defender for me :D

Cavalry. For the speed. If the AI is attacking me, I have done something wrong. I should be the one attacking.

Well, I guess if you want the most technical answer...

How about 4 elite infantry loaded into an army?

Either that, or a fat stack of artillery. At least with arty you can redline just about anything the AI can throw at you and not suffer any damage at all. Even their stupid waves of ironclads aren't invulnerable.

nothing beats the rifleman when you've been in a tight game all the way up to it, with no iron/saltpeter. Riflemen are amazing because they don't require any resources, come very early, and frankly, have proven to be fairly good defenders in themselves. Obviously Infantry are better, as their stats are better, and Replaceable parts is a great tech to grab, but if the circumstances require, rifleman CAN win out...
