Just curious what your highscore is on Chieftain level, all I find is on Emperor. Mine's 128, my girlfriend's 130...

I think around 125% at the most.... It's been a long time since I last played...

Hmm, I guess I'll have to try Chieftain again soon...if I remeber correctly, not very high. Only about 50something percent.

Mine's about 40%
Getting really high scores at chieftain requires you to completely use the map, to settle each square available. It takes so much time and so much micromanagement that I just get fed up with it. So to get high scores and not be busy on one game for months I usually play at higher levels.
Chieftain is nice to try some new strategies though as you don't have nasty AI which tries to overtake your cities.... I still like to play OCC at chieftain and finish as early as possible. Also my attempts to launch a BC spaceship are always at chieftain. ;)

Yes, me and my gf do these races against each other once in a while, and now is such a time.

We use the settler "click-click" cheat (we don't consider it a cheat since it's so demanding on your finger :) ), fill every possible square with cities, and launch the spaceship in 2084. We usually get 500-600 futuretechs.

Yes, the micromanagement can get on your nerves, a patch for producing trade/gold/lightbulbs would be GREATLY appreciated so you wouldn't have to build/sell SDI defences in like 90 cities. But it's maybe a bit late to hope for that. :crazyeye:

Anyway, we both really like this playing style, and are just wondering how well our days of playing measure up to the tough guys here (maybe you're not so tough after all :p ).

Or maybe we don't have as much time as you and your gf! :p ;)
Nice to see that your gf plays too, mine thinks it's just a waste of time to play computer-games, she also thinks watching soaps on television is time well-spent, so her opinion doesn't count really. :D

My gf has a max population of 245 million, I'm going to top that of course! sklsdafkjAooo! Nooo, you are the civ champ my love!

:whipped:

I have started a game at chieftain now trying to get a huge population.
I have 75 million now and am at 1820AD, still two big continents to settle and the rest of the continents need to be maxed out. I am currently converting all forest into plains and am going to irrigate hills as well.

It's really quite a pain to play this game, I must have spend 20 hours at least already and with all the micromanagement the endplay will take even more time with this many cities. Of course the settler-cheat takes a lot of time to but it really speeds up growth. :D

I'll report again when I've played more!

i obviously dont play civ1 as much as u people... do u play dos version or win version? because in the dos version i dont know of anyway to sell buildings, i also really dont know how to play properly, i seem to have trouble gaining money.

my highest score is aobut 30% i think, when i completely colonised my large island and many other islands with small inproductive cities. i never had any money and couldnt do anything, but i got through it by totally destroying everything.

Selling buildings:
Open the city screen and here you see a list of all city-improvements, behind every improvement there is a coin to indicate which ones you can sell (you can sell buildings, not wonders)
Just click on the name of the improvement and then a screen opens with the question whether or not you want to sell the improvement.
It is possible to sell one improvement per city per turn.

ok thx, so is this the way u make money? cos i find i hard to even keep a constant balance, especially when all my cities have improvements that cost a load to keep running.

Oh yes, pain now, reward later!

Current progress: 1665 AD, population 249.530.000, 89%

Just waiting for those futuretechs to pour in. Looks like a good one!

Wow, you've really mastered this type of game....
I'm at 1870 and have 107,000,000 people, I've got 150 future techs now (or something like that) and they are now coming in with the rate of 3 per turn.
I've got quite some cities to max out because I haven't turned all forrest and hills into grass yet but that's a matter of a few turns now.
Also 2 continents that need some more settling but I'm not sure I will be able to get your score....
Anyway this is the last game of this type I'll be playing, it's a bit boring to me and I just prefer harder levels with more competition in stead of just building as many cities as possible.
I like a good fight! :D

OK, my highscore on chieftan...
125%, it took me like 50 or 60 hours to do this...sick!!!
Last time for me that's for sure!

Anyway, I had 202,500,000 people and 550 future techs and all wonders, but hardly any peace (who needs that anyway. ;)
