I think we are all agreed about the Forbidden palace. I think the question of the second best it more interesting, but rather dependant on the game. Either it is a milatry one or not. The non milatry ones again are dependant on circumstances, but I would say that if you are involved in a space race, then there is nothing in the world more important than the Apollo Program. Iron works is juicy if you can build it (I never have in C3C).

Of the military ones, which would you build if you could build any? I am not sure, but I would say in most circumstances Battlefield Medicine would win.

No, unless you're playing a one city game going for a culture victory, the forbidden palace is always better than the heroic epic.

Disagree, there are situations (especially early in the game) where it is better to build the epic. FP certainly wins if you can only have one, but the question of which to build first is situational.

I don't find battlefiled medicine all that usefull, it does my arty no good whatsoever and armies can already heal in enemy territory.

I like:

1. Military academy: because it breaks your armies and lets you make more

2. Heroic Epic: 33% more leaders

I am a huge fan of Heroic Epic. Especially on higher levels. If you aren't a fighter then it would be useless. But, if you are...wow. In my current game as celts(on emperor,huge), I have 2 armies of gaelics terrorizing everyone, 3 unfilled armies that I just got, over about a 10 turn period(2 on one turn) that are going to be filled with knights. I have moved my palace and built FP w/ MGLs. I seriously doubt that I would be anywhere near this if I hadn't built Heroic Epic. I would be 1/4 of the way done with building FP in some corrupt city far away, have a poorly placed capital and have 2 armies. But instead the rest of the world lives in fear.

at an early stage of the game, the shield required to build an army can be better used to produce more units.

While I agree with the FP, I always have a soft spot for the Iron Works. I rarely can build it, though. That always bums me out.

But Wall Street, Military Academy, and The Pentagon are all good. Battlefield Medicine is pretty nice also.

I am a huge map player, so I have hardly the chance to build the cool iron works...

I play standard or small, and I am yet to be able to build the iron works. I could have in my last game if I had possitioned one city 1 tile NE, but I was not going to move a size 12 city just to get the iron works. I was gutted though.

What do you mean "breaks your armies"?

IIRC the actual attack and defense stats of an army are given an unseen bonus that amounts to 1/6 of the total army value for that stat. So, for example, If you had an army of 3 Knights the effective attack stat would be 6 (4 original plus 12/6).

With the construction of a military academy the bonus is raised to 1/4. This gives armies an even bigger edge than they normally get. If you build the pentagon as well, adding the fourth unit to the army gives it a bonus equal to the original stat so a 4 strong army of Cavalry still reads as 6.3 but for computational purposes has a value of 12.6.

Realistically it doesn't actually break armies much further from where they begin, but it helps.

Or at least I think that's how it works. anybody who knows please correct me if I'm wrong.
