Personally, I think "Economy" is the most important. Choose "free market" and get +2 to economy that gives you 1 energy in every square!
I have played games where I haven't even built a solar collecter on land with this trait. I prefer to use the sea for my energy needs (especially with SMACX's thermocline transducer improvement), and use the land for production.
Second, I think "Support" is important. When you can support up to base size of free units, suddenly a clean reactor seems like a waste to you.
A size 12 city could support 12 units and still have maximum production. Awesome!
The most useless trait, I think, is probe. Just built the Nethack Terminus and this trait becomes totally useless. Besides, military units do the job better than probe teams.
