Best starting location

I like his location. Its the only location that allows the city to take advantage of the cattle and the wheat. IMO, either is much better than a flood plain. Not a big fan of elephants. There bonus isnt that great, I usually build towns over them.

What difficult settings are these 'best starts' on? I find that the they get better and better the easier you get.

Had to post this one. I'm playing as the Incas (financial!) and believe it or not this is monarch level:

Have you thought about beelining to Calendar?

That being said you'd better find a nice production city site quickly because I don't see how Cuzco is going to generate many hammers. :crazyeye:

Indeed, you'd better get the extra long whip out of storage if you want to get anything built......

Personally, I'd have wandered a little before building Cuzco, with hindsight 2 or 3 tiles west maybe (all depends on map size and game speed of course)....

i see there are a lot of good/great starting spots, my problem is usually when i get a great start all the next city locations are lousy

But with how much food he can get once the city gets alittle bigger he'll be able to get working on the forest (two of which give +1 food +2 hammers) that will help some, ecspecialy when you get replacable parts (lumber mills).

Yeah, IMO that's too low on production to be a very good starting site. That is a crazy number of specials inside 1 fat cross though. Best starting sites for your first city are typically more balanced with good food, good production, and good commerce.

My all time favorite start was playing as Elizabeth (starts with fishing and mining) and I had FOUR seafood specials, all coastal, founded on a plains hill, total of 4 plains hills, 1 water without a special, and all the rest grassland. Every land square was also adjacent to a river. Massive food, production, and commerce with zero research required to unlock it all, plus plenty of cottage space to ramp up to even more ridiculous levels of commerce later. 2 of my mines popped specials later too. Didn't start with any land specials.

This has to be the best starting location I've ever had, I took these screenies at 720 AD just to show how powerful my capital got, this was on Monarch level.

I was rolling a few test starts for the new WOTM on Immortal difficulty and I got a start with Bananas, Wheat, Pigs, Cows, 2 Wines and Horses all in my BFC! I wish that I had kept a screenshot. Unfortunately, Immortal is waaaaay over my head and I couldn't do anything even with that ridiculous capitol.

I want more starting screenies. Come on guys lets show some more. Admit it, the starting screen is the most exciting one. A few nights ago I got 5 gold in my BFC and totally no food (like 2 peaks, 5 plains, 5 gold and an elephant). Scouting around the gold showed only 1 viable space and that was a site with 1 oasis and rice and 5 desert tiles or something. Still doing ok now with biology so the plains will finally bring in some food.
