Best Unique Unit

ya,i also forgot berserker, and rangnar, just started playing with vikings, but not yet to bers.but they are good, cause they get amphibious+rangars combat1+if u have barracks so it is combat2 :D got to love it

Yea. The berserker is not bad at all. +10% inherent city attack and Amphibious (no penalty from sea attack and/or across river). Even on land maps, +10% city attack makes it useful.

Don't forget the Oromo Warrior. 1 first strike, immunity to first strikes, AND it starts with Drills I and II! This allows 1-2 first strikes and -20% collateral damage right out of the box- not to mention the immediate access to Formation, Cover, Pinch, and a few other promotions. Drill IV Oromos can tackle most medieval units and emerge unscathed, as well as being able to almost hold their own vs. Knights and shrug off collateral damage.

Or, with Vassalage, Theocracy, and a Barracks, you could have Drill III Formation Oromos- 2 to 5 first strikes, -40% collateral damage, and a 25% bonus vs. Mounted can make for a unit that is absurdly difficult to counter in its day.

@Phrossack

Plus the free Drill I and II are permanent promotions so they remain when the Oromo is upgraded too.

The real Roman UU makes this look like nothing.

I really like the Samurai. I like to Oracle jump to Civil Service, and then research Machinery, and use macemen for my first wars... the Samurai are a huge upgrade from regular macemen with 2 first strikes and the extra first strike chance promotion (which sticks thru upgrades). Plus Toku is aggressive, so you get a cheap barracks and a one star strength. After the barracks and a city attack promotion Samurai are pretty boss.

And fast workers are nice too, depending on what type of game you're going for.

give the americans militia men or a patriot. uber cheap rifle men anyone? i haven't really found a favorite UU. not so good at the warmongering in civ 4

or americans could have something to replace rifleman,or a colonist(settler that can defend himself) :)

I like Redcoats, mainly because they fit my play style best. I have trouble with the early warring.

As to an American UU I like the idea from earlier for a Monitor. Oceangoing would be unrealistic and overpowered, but perhaps allowing multiple attacks would be a good power. With only 2 moves it would be only occasionally useful, but with Circumnavigation it would be a really powerful unit.

I'd have to say my favorite so far is the Immortal, because its what really helped me do in the early game. What it did led me to winning my first Augustus Caesar title. :D

I'm a big fan of war chariots.

I know the Perfect American UU!

Hard Workers. You can add them to a city as a Super Specialists for +10/5 Production and then take it out. Think, they are sorta like migrants. Early in the game it can be strong. Maybe only 5 Production until say Steam. Then +10 Production. Also: Now workers can actually work!!! :p

Made obsolete by Welfare State? :)

Until you get to the modern age. Then they give -3 :hammers: and -3 :gold: because we're all so lazy and fat now. :mischief:

Just wanna give an honorable mention to a UU that is not even close to being best, but is underrated... Camel Archer. I just lost a game as Louis XIV trying a Cultural Win on Monarch (my first in BTS) and got my ass handed to me by Saladin who had an enormous army of Camel Archers (2.5X my power). Flanking II Camels kept retreating and ate up my army of Riflemen. Annoying UU to face!! My empire was conquered in 12 turns. Never got my butt handed to me that way.

Like half of that power graph was Camel Archers...

How many Rifles did you have? (Whatever it was, it should've been more. :D)

Flanking can be quite effective and it's something I'm still trying to get used to. Yesterday, I had four tanks facing a large stack of mostly Curris and Maces . Needless to say, the flankers wore down the strength of the tanks to where I got to see 4 messages along the lines of "Your Tank has been killed by an Ottoman Longbow".
