Best use for Warlord?

Do Warlordunits gain 50% more XP in combat by default or just with the promotion 'leadership'?
I'm wondering how much u can accelerate the 2nd general by winning a lot of fights with a leadership'd Warlordunit, especially with imperialistic?!

I usually use my first GG to make a level six to gurantee that I will be able to build west point which does more overall than the military instructor does. After that it just depends.

Use the Great General 2 become a Warlord with only one unit so u can get it up to level 5 so u can build the Heroic Epic( 100% military production better than 25%) and the Pentagon ( 2 XP in ALL cities not just 1 like Great General)

I sometimes will attach my Warlord to a unit in the very early game, especially if I'm currently in a war. More often than not, I use them to construct academies. The +2 XP doesn't seem worth it unless I happen to have a production city with the Heroic Epic already built. I sometimes join Warlords to those cities in that case.

Building the pentagon does not require any units.

So from what I've read, I think my strategy will be....

Use GG #1 on a unit -- ensures Heroic Epic and West Point

Other GG's:
If I plan on doing a lot of warmongering, use GG's on units -- building a SOD with 3+ uber units is probably enough to walk through a war against an evenly teched civ.
If I plan on being pretty peacenik, use GG's as advisors -- I'll probably be building units in only one city, so I might as well make sure they are as well trained as possible.
If I'm playing pretty peacenik, but end up having to gear up for war, I might use the GG's as academies -- getting an extra 25% production may be more useful in generating the numbers I need than +2XP.

The 20 xp goes to the unit who got the warlord? Or to everyone else in the tile? So if i have 3 axemen in a tile, all with 5 xp, i attach the warlord to one of them, i get one axe with warlord and 5 xp and two axe with 15 xp, or they all get xp (12xp + 12xp + 11xp) ?

I've only had one Warlord so far. Attached him to a samurai unit which after I attached I promoted to a rifleman. Game was over about 25 turns later with a domination victory. I like attaching warlords to units!!

The 20 exp is distributed to all units currently on the tile. So if you have 4 units on the tile, they'll each get 5 exp.

What is the most points that a unit can earn toward a Great General from a single combat? If one is Imperialistic and has an attached GG and is attacking a city with poor (say 20%) odds in your favor could you get 10 or 12? I seem to remember getting at least 6 when attacking a city with an horse archer without a GG attached.

I think the best use for a warlord completely depends on your situation militarily. If you're on the offensive you want your warlord to lead, but if you get more warlords, then you want to build academies in your pump towns, using them to get techs is very useful, but depends on the tech. If for instance I'm locked in a land war, giving up my warlord to get a naval tech is stupid, I'll use him to lead or create an academy.

In my current game I attached my first GG to my small stack of 4 CR axemen. These axemen have survived through promotions to macemen, redcoats & infantry as I took out three enemies. I qualified for Heroic Epic pretty much immediately, and West Point when it became available. I've since generated two more generals and have used them as instructors at my HE/WP production centre. It has been churning out redcoats (& now infantry) with 5 promotions for quite some time now.

The number of Exp you get from a combat is

4 (if attacking) * Thier Strength /Your Strength

So if you were a Warrior attacking a Modern Armor in the Open, it would be 80 exp (160 towards a GG if you are Imperialistic .... I don't know if a 'Leader' counts)... of course you would Lose, (the odds would probably be reported as 0.0% but there would technically be a chance you would win)... you could get even more if the Modern Armor was promoted, oe if it was a MI fortified in a city

For Reasonable Odds, say 20%.... you would probably get ~6 exp (12 if Imperialistic)

Just finished my first Warlords game, Japan Noble, Fractal, Standard size. Used the first Great General for an academy, which was pretty stupid. This was on marathon, so It took a long time until i saw the next Great General. I attached him to a lvl 5 grenadier.

Shortly there after I launched my campain against Julius Cesar, with my GG unit in the main stack. After I took the first city, he was killed by an attacking knight...

Didn't matter that much though. Rolled over Julius, who was my last opponent besides Wang Kon, who became my vassal earlier on. Won my first conquest victory. Yay :)

Yeah, the first general should be used on a unit so you can make sure you get heroic epic. I wasn't aware that you needed a lvl 5 unit for it now, so I couldn't build it for some time.
