Best WW2 scenario?

BTW, please offer your suggestions for improving my two WWII scenarios - I'll be making new versions soon... :)

Yes, I believe your scenarios are the best - enough said!

I find your scenarios very detailed (I love detail) and playable. Many other WW2 scenarios are crap because the geographical information is inaccurate and the units are badly designed, not representative of reality or just plain wrong! I get the impression that you go to great lengths to make your scenarios historically accurate - that's great. Keep it up.

I still think Nemo is the best game designer, however.

I think the main problem with your WW2 Europe scenario is that it's too easy to get the 'too many units' error coming up. You need to rectify this.

Nemo was the best.
His creations stand the test of time and stand heads over all others, in terms of design and mechanics.

2194 days, is the reason I loved CIV2 scenarios so much.

Unless he is some secret lurker on the boards of CFC or poly,
I think he is married with kids or in the military or some other terrible, boring, non-civ fate.

He is gone until he decides to return.

It is up to us latter-day CIV2 scenario makers to carry on the fight!

:)

Nemo was a great designer, but he 'retired' too soon. If anyone is still in touch with him, please ask him how he could be persuaded to come back to scenario designing. I'd be very willing to pay for his work.

2194 days was a classic scenario, but also very flawed. In terms of design it was great, but playability was spoilt by the 'world map' approach, which didn't allow for detail, and the huge difficulty in playing as the Axis. I would have preferred two different scenarios for the European and Asian theatres, much as Insurgent has done.

Red Front is much closer to my idea of a perfect WW2 scenario, but it was crazy to make it playable by the USSR only! He should have created a patch to make it playable by the German side.

So, overall, I still prefer Insurgent's two WW2 scenarios for playability. Even these need to be retouched, though.

Considering the amount of detail, new ideas/events he had in Red Front to make playing Russia great, the amount of work to get playing the Germans up to the same standard would have meant almost double the amount of work (the graphics and map could be the same but not much else IMO.

I liked Red Front very much too... :goodjob:

I also really liked your scenarios, insurgent. (I actually think I have them all including Desert Storm and the original Israel one) Can you do one thing when you make the updated Nippon and Das Dritte Reich - can you please do something about that awful AI! The scenarios are just way too easy. BTW, I think you should give the Spanish a tank or plane of their own - something to help them out. The same goes for the Dutch in Nippon.

I'll try - the main objective of making updated versions of Nippon and Reich was always to make it more challenging...

I have played Civ2 MGE for years. I haven't played for some time though (moved on to other games and such).

But over the past couple of days I have been reading up on this forum and spending some time looking at all the units (in the unit thread). The nostalgia, new scenario making, and the fact that many new games still cannot hold a candle to Civ2, has re-awakened my interest in the game :)

So I'm installing MGE again, and will be looking forward to playing some old and new scenarios.

BTW, I think Red Front is brilliant, and is almost the only way to design a scenario to give the player a really tough challenge.

I also like UP The Boot.

I would like to see other scenarios designed in the tradition of Red Front, such as an Ardennes scenario (Battle of the Bulge) playable as the Allies against the German onslaught. It should be playable ONLY as the Americans, and it should be tough.

I would also like to see the Afrika Korps by Petroski redone. It was quite enjoyable, but it has several bugs and needs a bit of re-work.

Overall, I am very happy to see that Civ2 still lives. Please keep up the excellent work :)

i think darthveda is attempting a battle of the bulge scenario, but for play as the germans only. It looks pretty amazing with day and night being simulated within the humble engine of civ2. if you want to check it out its over at apolyton in the scenario league forum.

Thanks for the heads-up :)

I checked it out, and it certainly looks promising.

Hope you all continue with scenario/unit creation :)

Cheers!

If you want things harder, give less trade arrows to the terrain, the cash flow is just too powerful. I can buy unit after unit and replenish the treasury and never run short on cash.

Ya, it seems that no research makes the scenarios very easy because of the fast cash gians.

Just as many others I also have to say Red Front.
That turns take so long to do don't bother me much (you don't have to play it throgh in one swoop)

I've only played red front and second front. I think both are greath and Nemo should keep on doing some scenarios.

"Red Front was great, but you could only play as the Russians, which was goofy! It needs a patch, so that you can play the Axis if you wish. Come one NEMO!! "

Comments:
Playing red front for the finns is nice. The objective is to be faster then the german army. Winter is very good for finns because of their infantry. The problems started when i reached June1944, had a spread line of russian conquered cities (from leningrad via gorky to the urals) get some technologies from the german (Panzer V Panther(12/10/5) and JagdPanther(18/8/5) i think), and then started to be attacked by the germans). Complete military disaster. NOTE: The russians still had cities on the southeastern corner of the map, and their cities fall quickly to germans. NOTE2: The german AI when reached Moscow (1942), instead of to everything to conquer it they simple continue moving their troops east. Moscow only falled in 1944.
For the second front... i liked to have money, get to the Panzer Tiger "Whitman" with the scout jeep and then poof, he's mine.

Also, some other suggestionsfor Reich:

-The graphic of the Pz VI "Tiger" makes it impossible to see the health bar.
-A/D/M, cost, fp and hp values for all the tanks are mostly the same. The performance of these tanks were not all the same.
-The Nazis should have more fighters and the Ju-88 bomber is totally redundant because of the Stuka.
-Perhap up the hp and fp of the heavy fortification, makes Leningrad, Moscow, and Stalingrad harder objectives.
-Take out the V-1 and V-2 since they were strategic instead of tactical weapons and Civ does them no justice.
