Better science, better score, but I can never get a domination victory.

Hey. For the last couple of hours I've been playing a domination victory. It started up good and I was able to take the capitals of 5/7 civilizations.

But this always seems to happen to me....

There will ALWAYS be one civilization on an island by himself. And this civilization can spam the newest units, despite not having that much money.

This time, it was Siam. I managed to take 2 of his cities but I couldn't take more than that.

Can someone please tell me how I have the same units as the AI but his units are doing more damage to me?

For instance, if I hit one his Artillery's with an Infantry it barely scratches it. If he hits one of my Artillery's with an infantry though, it takes down most of the damage.

And like I said, he seems to be able to spam the newest units. I just can't keep up. By the time I have enough units to fight him, my units are outdated. I just can't produce that many new units that quickly.

So please, somebody tell me, what am I doing wrong? Like I said, I ALWAYS finish off every civilization but the lone unit spam civilization.

Ok so you have 5/7 capitals but cannot outproduce the AI?

Somehow I have difficulty believing this but anyhow. Get flight and multiple bombers and the AI will not be able to compete. It does not understand modern era combat.

My approach is to take down the bigger threats first. So, when you're getting close to domination time take a good look at the map and the demographics screen and then go invade the tech/score/land leader first. Yes the first war will be more of a slog, but after that it's just mopping up. If you have a civ that's already on par or ahead of you in score and tech, going off to fight various wars for a hundred turns or whatever is just going to put you further and further behind that civ, so it's important to take them out first. Of course, if they're *way* ahead of you to the point they have a military advantage, you may instead need to invade someone weak first, pause to consolidate your winnings, and then try and catch up to the leader. That being said, if it's already the atomic era you really don't have much time for catching up. This is essentially what the purpose of your classical/medieval era wars is-- to set yourself up in a an advantageous land/population position for the eventual domination of the rest of the map.

His units might have promotions, or he may have religious beliefs which boost combat near holy cities.

Exactly. It's more like, by the time I produce enough units, the AI magically gets the newest units.

And also, it seems the AI does something, where it can do more damage than me with lesser technology. When I first attacked Siam, he was still using horses and those elephant units. Yet somehow his horses and elephant units are easily taking down my Artillery's. It makes no sense. Is the AI cheating?

This is Vanilla btw, so it's nothing to do with religion.

Well this is kind of difficult, because it's always the guy alone on a continent doing this. So it's hard to take him out early, because you need Frigates and such. And by the time you get Frigates, the guy already has like 16 cities.

You don't need all of his 16 cities just the cap, or few on the way to the cap.

Also you should not be producing newest units, but upgrading older ones. So for frigate rush don't build frigates, but galleases and upgrade as soon as you get Navi.

For arty rush have a bunch of trebs and cannons before and upgrade, if front lines are far away, capture at least one city before the rush so you can upgrade at the front, or bring a settler and spam a troll city just for that.

And to get most mileage, beeline the relevant tech, if you wan frigates, after education research nothing but tech on the way to Navigation, consider bulbing a GS or building Oxford to get it.

Siam is an ICS - what you have to do to take him out (especially if he is on another island) is build up a navy of battleships and (since this is vanilla) a few melee units for the final swoop. After each city-grab, take time to consolidate your losses and manage happiness and unit health; then progress further.

Good Luck! :goodjob:

Are you in extreme unhappiness? In any case why not just upload the save file, I am sure someone will look at it.

You can see all modifiers when you point at a unit in attack range of your own unit. It sounds like you are venting frustration with your Always and never kind of talk. =P
