Beyond Earth like Test of Times non-earth?

I was just remembering back to Civilization II Test of Time expansion which allowed game play in a non-earth setting. I remember some things like teleporting and a two-sided map, with portals to flip to the other side.

Is Beyond Earth anything like that was? I am scraping all my pennies to save up for Civ VI, but might consider Beyond Earth if I can find it on the cheap.

It's more like Alpha Centauri.

It's one map, futuristic tech, and primitive aliens that start hostile but can be befriended. But this time they tied humanity's evolution into the core story.
