Black Screen on Diplomacy

GTX 460
Xeon 5506 Quad
12GB RAM
W7 x64

When a leader tries to proposition me, frequently, the screen goes black except for the mouse cursor. I am able to use the keyboard (press escape to exit), but the screen remains black. I'm able to bring up Shift-Tab for Steam features, but still black.

All my settings are on high and 2x MSAA in game. Game generally runs fine (except for relatively slow turns). This problem did not seem to happen on the initial US release, but since the first patch.

Anyone else have this and have any resolution?

If they're building the diplomacy window as a layer on top of the game window, it might take up more memory that way. I'd suggest lowering the settings (which should consume less memory) to see if that helps. It would also be a good idea to validate files in case the patch corrupted something.

Edit: saw you have 12GB but it might not be able to access most of it given it's a 32 bit program. And graphics memory matters more than general RAM, other than paging effects.
