I´ve been getting black screens with the latest nvidia driver (84.21). I played some time fine, but after that the black screen became consistent, happening after 1 or 2 minutes into the game. Rolled back to 81.98 and the game works... for now...

I want to know if anyone is having the same problem, because I fear my RAM is getting faulty...

Are we talking about 84.21_forceware_winxp2k here?

I haven't tried them out yet as 81.98 works fine for me.

Sep, the latest from Nvidia Homepage...

Get Beta Driver 84.25 from Nvidia Nzone now; it fixes general compatibility problems. You must turn off anti-aliasing option to make Civ4 work all the time, I think.

84.21 introduced compatibility problems for some games (not only Civ4).

WQHL is known as official driver and are certified for all users. Beta Driver is not certified for official but allows you to try out early before next official driver could be released.

Fortunately, 84.25 is release candidate, not just BETA so it should be stable for most users.

"You must turn off anti-aliasing option to make Civ4 work all the time, I think."
So far, i think that's true. No problems at all with anti-aliasing turned off

I think that previous 84.21 driver (84.25 is OK) send invalid commands to graphics card when Civilization IV try to display "Technology" popup (when technology resource is complete). Invalid Command caused graphics card to crash and turn off output to the monitor; requires hardware reset to reset graphics card. I confirmed Forceware Driver 84.25 fixed major bug that involve Civilization IV's Technology Popup OR possibly random causes.

However to be safe, anti-aliasing should stay OFF and make conservative timing for your memory. Frame ahead buffer does not matter; you can set frame ahead buffer to what you like.

I did tested my Civilization IV with Forceware 84.25 and no problems at all!

:)

Above the slider there should be a drop down box. Click that - choose disable and the 2x-4x-8x will go grey.

they already are black.. I Can tick a box saying "let application decide" wich makes the slider turn grey. But Still not working...

Driver details says:
8.221.... ATI OMEGA
OMEGA 6.02
2d Driver 6.14....

Ive tried with 4-5 different driver versions but still It restarts after MAXIMUM 10 minutes

Interesting that I'm not having this problem, with 84.21 driver. I may try turning off aliasing and see the game speeds up a bit. Not having nearly the amount of problems I was with the last drivers, but it does get a bit choppy at times.

Something isn't the same. My Catalyst has a dropdown box (like the address bar on Explorer). In my dropdown box there's an option disable. Sorry I couldn't help.
