Blakes 7 was a very kitch (or totally cool) UK science fiction series about a group of renegades in a totallitarian galactic state zipping about in a space ship with a big green blob for an engine. The BBC couldnt affoed expensive sets so when they beamed down onto an alien planet it always resembled a chalk quary in the home counties (funny that....) with some alien, but very plastic looking plants.

Anyhoo, given the recent success of the return of Dr Who to UK screens, should the BBC now think about remaking Blakes 7?

Possibly a remake but not a continuation/sequel of the 70's series as the ending was just too good. If they where to make a remake it would be nice to see some better sets for the planets. You need to have a pretty good imagination to think a quarry in north Yorkshire is Cygnus Alpha. Overall I didn't think the special effects where as bad as people say and I don't think any great improvement could be made given the nature of the programme.

I'm not a big fan of remakes, I find that you just can't capture the same spirit as the original, so it's best to always move on to new things.

I'm not particularly big on the new Dr Who.

It was superb and I voted yes from childhood experience(it had me glued to my TV from one week to the next wondering what would happen to Avon and his band of missfits) It had everything, but how could you carry it off again?

Anyone remember Sapphire and Steel now that was wierd, but very much in the same line.

the new doctor whos alright.

I love the new Dr Who. We sit happily as a family of four, with our Saturday nights defined around Dr Who and the follow-up "Dr Who Confidential" on BBC3. It is somewhat embarrasing when they show clips of the old Dr Who ("Did you really think that was scary, Dad ?"), but otherwise it's top notch stuff, achieving exactly what they're aiming for.

I think it's partly the fact that the old Dr Who is so bad in retrospect which makes me ready to accept this new one, but still fervently hope that they won't remake "Blake's 7". Blake's 7 was crucial stuff for me, and I didn't see it as kitsch - if they remade it now, I'd either have to accept that you can somehow dismiss the last episode (SPOILER ;): they all died, after all) or that you should pretend the original was so naff that it needs re-made.

Leave Blake's 7, and my memories, in peace. Please.
