Blighted forests

How do they work? I've read in some thread that you need IW to be able to approach them and then I've stumbled upon a discussion that recon line should be able to deal with them too so I'm not sure what are my options.

Is there any faq or something that would describe the features of RifE?

Currently they drive the units off. You can approach them from borders. Also I've noted a few occasions where I was able to approach them diagonally, but I don't know the cause.

Iron Working. I don't know any more than the pedia entry. And if you have that option on, there's something arguably more nasty that can show up instead.
