blocking units (specifically the sea colony pods!)

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there's a way to block a unit from the game (for me and the AI).

The AI has a really irritating expansion plan with sea colony pods and I'm thinking it might be nice just to remove the unit for next time I play!

Hi raska!

Welcome to CFC. Here's how to prevent the AI from building Sea Colony Pods:

1. Open the file alphax.txt (or alpha.txt if using SMAC). You might want to make a backup copy of this file first, in case something goes wrong.

2. In the #WEAPONS section of the file, find the line

Colony Module, Colony Pod, 0, 8,10, -1, None, ; Noncombat packages

3. Change this line to

Colony Module, Colony Pod, 0, 8,10, -1, Disable, ; Noncombat packages

4. Save your changes. Be sure to save the file as a pure text file (using Notepad, for example).

You and the AI will still be able to build regular Colony Pods. You can still build Sea Colony Pods, if you wish, by using the Design Workshop to reverse engineer regular Colony Pods. However, since the AI doesn't reverse engineer, it will be unable to build Sea Colony Pods. If you play SMAX, you probably won't want to have the Pirates in the game as an AI.

You can use similar techniques to disallow other units. Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you would like any part of this reply clarified.
