For quite some time, I have found my addiction to this game to be a complete waste of hours of my time. However, it has now struck me that a lot of the rules of Civ3 are applicable to the mechanics of the world, especially the Strategic Resource and Luxuries part. I feel a real understanding of the dynamics of Colonialism and Imperialism when I find myself looking for an excuse to declare war on the French all because I want their source of Rubber. I also have a better understanding of Stalinist tactics like state-mandated starvations and repopulation schemes.
So it is that I've decided to cook up a story about America's quest for a source of oil after theirs dried up. Look for it in a couple of weeks in this forum, maybe later.
The premise is that the American source for oil suddenly dries up, leaving them with no way to make high-tech units. After the Arabs refuse to trade their excess source, the President decides to take matters into his own hands.
