Well it was bound to happen.

After nearly a year of playing Civ I got the dreaded question from my husband.

"Will you teach me how to play?"

I'll be asking for a second computer for Christmas!

What's your convert story? Have you passed on your addictions? Do tell!

And if you have any tips on how I can get time on the computer let me know!

Ah seriously, I don't begrudge him the time, it's nice to badger him about how I'm the better player...:p

Wishful Thinking...wishing I had just said no! :crazyeye:

hrm

if only my wife's into computers .. hehe

*wished for a second computer for bday and instead got a lecture* *sigh*

I bought Civ2: Tot, only to find out that Civ3 was coming out that Christmas. Bought Civ3, played it nonstop. Then, for a while, I got fed up with it (a boredom streak), but now I play it WAY too often.

(I'm getting 300 posts TODAY! :D )

I used to play CivI until i dropped from ym chair and was asleep before I hit the ground.

Then came CivII - and then CivII MP

Then came a new GF - and she made fun of me because I was playing 'that game'. And she always told how her ex was of the smae crazy breed, playing these stupid games instead of going outdoors.....

Then i bought CivIII and we had a very tesne time... until one day she asked me why the game is s much fun.

I showed her! Now, we fight over the CD all the time :D

Well, lucky for me my husband doesn't like to stay up till the wee sma's...

Sleep? What's that?

Wishful Thinking...cheering for Lt. Killer M

Congrats on the posts cgannon!

my b/f has absolutely no interest in civ yet. He likes to play shoot 'em up type games. I think I'm actually glad he doesn't because i'd probably have to kick him off the computer . It's bad enough that he hogs it to download movies.

I first started playing Civ back in '95 I think, and I was dating a real jerk, but his younger brother introduced me to Civ ( i didn't have a PC at that time). I actually stayed with the guy a few months longer just so I could go to his house and play. By the time I bought my own PC Civ II was out.

Last year we bought this computer and my birthday was coming up, so the b/f asks me if I wanted Civ III and I warned him ahead of time what he was in for ..long stares at the back of my head and such..and he bought it anyway......Can't say I didn't warn him!
he even teases me about being on this message board.
I think if he were to actually learn how to play it he'd probably enjoy it , but for now, I'll keep discouraging him and hogging the computer all to myself ;)

Wow, a lady Civ player! I'm guessing you're a rare breed, though I'm not sure of the actual statistics. Look at the bright side, when PtW come out, and you get that second computer, you'll be able to play against each other.

Yes, I know have 300 posts and have trouble with custom avatar (go to the CFC Feedback board for the full info.

I have nobody to convert, thank goodness. :mischief: Thankfully, my nephews are too young to play anyhow. My dad mentioned at one point that maybe he should get some computer game to play at some point to relax, but I doubt he'd have the time to learn and play. :p He'd probably be more of a flight sim guy anyhow, which is fine with me, as long as he plays it on his own computer.

spoken like a true civ fan!!!

Might make an interesting poll to find out the ratio of male to female players!

We also have a Playstation 2 in the house, so at least there is something for me to do when my hubby hogs the computer! Of course, I'm the one who has to wear the headphones though as the computer and telly are in the same room. (Not for long though, I'm painting the 'study' next month and will be moving the computer in there)

I remember when I didn't have a computer and lived in a dorm for the summer. My friend had the game and would let me play whenever I wanted, even when he was in bed asleep! Best friend I ever had.

I have a few converts I'm quite proud of...

One of them, school mate. Used to play Railroad Tycoon. I simply told him of Civ1 and that was it.
Many years later, now, he's working in a bank and spending evenings playing Civ3 with six-months old son on his lap and wife snoring in the bedroom...

And guess what. She is the one who bought him Civ3 as a bday present!

we had that poll once... but i can't remember the title.... if I find time, I'll do a search for it

We seem to have an influx of female civ3 players in Gen. Discussion recently (well, I call it an influx- about four or five not including me). You think gonzo or hippo would allow us to make a new poll?

I play Civ 3 most of the time - with nostalgic dips into MOO2 / Ascendency and Magic.

My wife plays AirSonix over and over - and is totally addicted to GRim Fandango. Bought her Starship Titanic to occupy her when she finishes it. She has no interest in Civ - too complicated. She has her own computer. I've got 4, two of which are PCs and the rest are gathering dust somewhere in boxes.

Another Ascendancy fan! :goodjob: I wonder if AscII is ever coming out

I haven't played that in ages - may have to go back to that one for old times sake. The Shevar make Shaka look like a peacenik! I also played Magic about 7 or 8 years ago - they managed to ruin that one for me like they did sports-card collecting - by making too many sets

I'm trying to get my brother to try Civ, but he's too busy to find the time.

It's funny how people either just don't play games, or they play a whole host of them!

We really enjoy Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, and I'm currently battling it out on Final Fantasy X.

I also bought my husband Age of Empires, and I'm playing a game called the Longest Journey.

Every once in a while we empty our change jar and go nuts at the Game shop! I'm hoping for the Myst Trilogy for Christmas and I think I'll get the hubby something for the Playstation...hehehehe!

Now that's what I call a successful relationship. :goodjob: :D :yeah:
