Hi all,

I've purchased CIV 4 the day it was released. I like the game a lot, and noticed that it is available for purchase on Steam.

I would much rather have the game on Steam, as it means I don't have to have the DVD in the drive. I'm onto my 2nd DVD, as the original broke while taking it out of the box. (and being in Australia, it is just as cheap to buy a new copy than to get it replaced)

Anyways, is it possible trade in my DVD copy for the Steam version? I would like to buy Warlords and the upcoming expansion, but am holding off in case I can get them on Steam too.

If I can't get my copy of Civ 4 on Steam, can I still get the expansion packs on steam? Would it work with having the DVD version on vanilla Civ 4, and then buy the expansions over valves digital distribution tool?

Thanks

You like the steam version, man you're weird.

Your disc broke while taking it out of the box !? You should have taken it right back to the store as they obviously gave you a defective product.

I don't think Steam will allow you to trade in your CIV IV. There is no benifit for them to do so, as they would essentially loose money on the deal. Since you do not need the original CIV IV CD to install/play Warlords, it would be a safe bet to purchase your Warlords from Steam, although I would suggest emailing/calling Steam for confirmation.

Steam games have a 'no cd patch' functionality sort of built in, that's great about them, I guess. Plus you can easily install the game on any pc and play from anywhere without carrying a cd around. However, I Hate steam version of civ, as I am not able to start a save game by just clicking on it (when I start gotm's for example). I have to run civ first and load the game from there.

I think you can at least give it a try to activate your game on steam: run steam (login to your account) and go to 'My games' on the top menu. Then you see the 'Activate a product on steam' link on the bottom of that page below the area where your games are listed. I guess you just have to fill in the product serial/key code. I never tried it myself though.
