I've been out of the civ loop for quite a while (I know, I'm sorry!) and am ready to start playing again.
:goodjob:
But I hate running bootcamp on my mac and I can't even find my PC disk even if I wanted to. So...

Aside from the base game, what else has come out that I need to buy? I want all the extras that have come out. when I make the trip to Best Buy, what am I looking for? I want to avoid buying the same things twice... (if you missed it, I need the mac versions)

Also... for Civ4 I had this really awesome reference giude I downloaded from this site.. by Anion. It has all the info at my fingertips, like civs, units, wonders, techs, EVERYTHING. Has anyone created anything similar for civ5? Once I had it, I never played civ4 without it nearby and referred it to frequently throughout each game. I would LOVE one for civ5. Thanks in advance.
:)

IMHO you would do better buying the Gold package on steam. You get everything, I upgraded for 5 bucks.

The reason I say steam is because you do not need to worry about disc. I was real down on steam at 1st, but they really do protect your games.

If I recall correctly, steam is REQUIRED to play this game. In fact, buying the game at the store (probably more $ than on steam) gives you a disk that you'll only use once. Like was mentioned above, it's not as bad as it sounds. You should be able to upgrade for cheap, get Gods and Kings for real cheap now, and, wait for the legendary steam summer sales, and you'll probably be able to get the upcoming Brave New World expansion for $10-20 in a month or so.

That being said, I've found all of the scenarios pretty generic. I've tried them each only once.

Where it really gets fun is the mods, which steam supports, allowing you to search through them and see how how other users have ranked and commented on them.

I decided to go with the steam version. Downloaded steam, signed in, and discovered my PC version from several years ago still there... and I was able to download the mac version to my computer. Found the upgrade, was $20, but got that.

So I'm trying to find some mods I like. (and apparently there are a couple of hoops to jump through to get them to work, so learning that).

It's been a while... gotta get back in to it. Slowly.

I would wait before jumping into mods, if you got some spare cash you could upgrade to Brave New World which is due release in under 2 weeks now.

Oh I'll definitely be getting Brave New World. But why should that stop me from playing with mods? I had several that I liked with civ4.

Nothing wrong with mods. Helpful to understand the base game, though, before changing it.

Anytime something big comes out makes pretty much any mod obselete, and the bigger the mod the longer it will take for it to adjust/be updated.
