Brittish Isles Succession Game - The Saxon Menace

1794 Chichester is bombed into submission and taken. One bomber was shot down. Petworth is taken. Swithred builds the Manhatten Project. Worthing is bombed and taken.

1796 Brittany signed a peace treaty with Sussex. The traitors. Burgess Hill taken with stiff resistance. 9 infantry units slain and 7 field pieces captured. Captured artillery bombards Windsor. Bombers hit Windsor with no effect except one interceptor is shot down. Massive naval bombardment of Midhurst. Tanks take Windsor with moderate losses. Another artillery unit captured. Tanks and artillery moved into position to attack Midhurst and Selsey. Tanks, bombers and artillery moved into position to attack Brighton and Bognor Regis.

1798 Lancing revoltsback to Sussex. Egeham taken. Massive air bombardment of Brighton and Bognor Regis. Massive artillery and naval bombardment of Midhurst. All three successfully defend with their last infantry. What a fantastic set of battles - one for the history books.

1800 Furious bombardment continues on all targets. Bognor Regis taken. Four field pieces captured. Forces assemble to take Lancing, Midhurst and Brighton.

1802 Bognor Regis falls. Midhurst falls. Selsey falls. A Great Leader, Sigered is born from the chaos of battle. Brighton receives unbelievable amounts of bombardment dozens of bombers and a score of artillery batter the once proud city into ruins. Its defenders fight valiantly but no longer have hope. Brighton falls and 14 workers are captured. Arundel falls.

1804 Lancing is taken. The glorious Sussex empire is no more. Airforce begins rebasing to Bodmine. 3 airports purchased in Sussex (all near Seolesiea for convenience) to begin massive ground troop transfers. 3 transports loaded with artillery. Additional artillery musters in Steyning. The fleet begins maneuvers towards the multi-civ continent.

1806 The Scots want a mutual protection pact. We decline but renegotiate our ROP + incense deal to acquire Amphibious War. This puts us current for technology. MMOT (Massive Movement of Troops). 2 Armies arrive on multi-civ land.

1808 MMOT

1810 Brittany and Ireland have signed a peace treaty. Ireland has only a couple of cities left. MMOT

1812 Brittany and Scotland have signed a MPP. MMOT

1814 MMOT

Notes
The air force is assembled in Bodmine. Tank forces assembled to the south of Bodmine and Henlistone. There are two tank armies on multi-civ continent. Two tank armies and an unbelievable amount of artillery in a fleet convoy from Sussex approaching the Scottish/Brethon border. It will take 3 more turns to complete moving all available forces from Sussex to multi-civ via the airports but I'd recommend against this (keep some forces on Sussex in case of an attack). We have more than 50 tanks on multi-civ right now. This is enough to steamroll whoever we want. 16 workers heading from Essex to Henlistone. Workers on Sussex and Essex have been automated (add/pollution only). There's a leader hanging out in Seolesiae with nothing to build.

I automated the workers on Sussex and Essex. It was just taking too fantastically long to get through a turn and with our massive superiority I was comfortable with a bit less efficiency in exchange for speed.

Our tech is on par with the world - still cranking everything possible into cash for artillery upgrades but that's about done now.

We can conquer whoever we want for a conquest victory. We can build temples in Sussex to grow the borders and get a domination victory. We can sit back and wait for a cultural victory. We could even go for a spaceship with little chance of loss. I don't know about UN at this point. Brittany hates us and Scotland is second biggest. That's two for Scotland - a tie at worst and if Ireland went Scotch we would lose.

My suggestion is to take out Brittany. With the force present on their borders they will fall quickly. My plan of attack would be to make a MPP with Scotland and declare war on Brittany. Don't attack Brittany, wait for them to attack. That way, our MPP with Scotland will be activated. If we attack Brittany, Scotland's MPP with them will force them to declare war on us.

I can't post the save file right now. Each time I try, this post stalls before completing. I will try again later.

While I can NOT play, a couple of questions come to mind.

1 - Is this an open game and you want ANYONE to play.
2 - Or is this a request for an existing player to go?
3 - Will that latest version of the mod work, or is this game on an ealier version?

Ok Shaitan, got it. (tonight anyway, tomorrow at latest)

Thanks for the bump, TheWatcher :P
We've got a closed roster and are ALMOST done. It's with a (significantly) older version of the mod anyway.

Hopefully we can polish off this puppy before 1.21

Shaitan,

Sorry, have to pass this round. I've been getting sore wrists/hands a fair bit lately, and let them get a bit worse than they should. Not carpal tunnel or anything, just overuse - day job as programmer and playing most nights will do that. Not just this game, I'm taking about a week or two "pass" in all SG's 8-\

I did open your save up, see if by some miracle it was quick or straightforward. We have about 50% of the land+coastal, if I understood the "MapStats" numbers, so domination won't be there until we take out one of the big countries and halfway into the last one.

Recommendation: go ahead and finish this one up, give us the report :P

:(

Okay, I'll put this baby to bed. Brittany is my target. They've gotten under my skin from the first meeting. I'll rush temples all over Sussex and pound the Brethons and we'll get domination pretty quickly. The reason we show low in MapStats is that there's no culture on Sussex so we only have half of the island in our cultural borders.

I'm still not ready to post my turn summary. The first turn took almost 6 hours and the second took almost 4. It should get faster now as most of the armed forces in the entire world are dead. Here's some teaser info:

Operation Underbelly was set into motion with 80% of objectives met.
Attack - Artillery = Many Dead Tanks (I have a good excuse though).
Brittany was crippled the first turn of the war.
I have NEVER seen so many leaders in one game! All three contestants got 2 leaders each on the first 2 turns of the war.

I might be able to finish this up tomorrow.

In the year 1814, Shaitan The Destroyer ascended to the high throne of Essex. Unlike the honorable leaders who had preceded him, The Destroyer had only one Maxim: "The End Justifies The Means". He had one goal - to preserve forever the supremacy of the Essex people. He vowed to never cease until the entire world bowed to the Essex throne.

1814 ROP and MPP negotiated with Brittany. Plans begin for Operation Underbelly. 8 Brethon targets must fall in one massive assault. Massive Movement of Troops.

1816 MMOT. It's do or die time. Scotland and Brittany have Computers. Brittany also has a treasury big enough to upgrade almost their entire army (they have Leonardo's). Wines, Incense, Silk and Dyes are sold to Brittany for cash. Computers and Rocketry purchased from Brittany along with a massive loan, all to be paid back in 20 equal installments. Their treasury is dry. A similar loan brings Scotland to a zero treasury. Sigered rushes the SETI program. Premature execution of Operation Underbelly forces a scope shift. 7 Brethon targets must be taken - without artillery support. Just to be extra rude, a MPP is signed with Scotland. They'll be declaring war as soon as we attack Brittany so that's one more treaty they'll have to break. Bwah hah hah hah!

Operation Underbelly begins with a fleet engagement near the primary target of Nantes. Brittany loses 1 Ironclad, 5 Destroyers and 2 transports that were on the way to support Nantes. We lose 2 Destroyers and a Battleship.

Air bombardment of Nantes is ineffectual. Ground forces take heavy losses but Nantes is secured. 9 resisters will make garrison duty quite interesting. 3 tank armies and 38 artillery disembark in the newly captured port of Nantes. Artillery reduces Lys Cerrut and Calweton (Scottish) to rubble.

Berzerkers and Cavalry destroy 4 units (including 2 tanks!) outside of Saint-malo. Aescwine the Great Leader appears during the battle for Saint-malo. Saint-malo holds. :(

Brest is taken after a furious battle. Five tanks lost as all had to attack twice. Infantry takes the city. Leonardo's Workshop is now ours. There is no longer fear of massive Brethon upgrades to Mechanized Infantry. 9 resisters here as well.

Lorient, Saint-Nazaire, Vendee and Carnac are taken. Heavy resistance in all cities.

Net results of Operation Underbelly: Brittany lost 6 of its top 7 cities. Tank forces reduced by 60%. Infantry forces reduced by 80%. Fleet reduced by 75%. Our entire battle force is wrecked and will suffer from counterattacks. There are 25 new tanks in theatre for the second wave of attacks.

Infantry is upgraded where possible in the operation zone.

Our ill-gotten booty purchases 19 temples on Sussex.

1818 We've lost Snaefell (size 2 city south of Brittany). Various worker traps are sprung and our wounded tanks in the field are demolished. This saves all of our newly acquired cities from any serious Brethon counter assault. The Scots launch a massive assault on Vendee. Fortunately, 11 of the tanks came from their Irish front, crossed roads and ran out of movement on Vendee's doorstep. Vendee's last wounded tank successfully defends the city. There are now 15 tanks outside the city. Riots throughout the annexed regions of Brittany - the only option at this time is to starve down the populace as quickly as possible. Mechanized Infantry starts rolling off the assembly line. Aescwine builds an army, freeing the way for more great leaders. Sigbert the great leader appears during clean up operations near Bodmine. Sigbert rushes to Henlistone to create another army.

Artillery pounds the tank stack at Vendee down to 1 health each. Vendee is reinforced by sea with Mechanized Infantry.

Calweton (Scot) is taken - 7 resisters.

Tintagol or Saint-malo must be taken to provide a path for reinforcements. Saint-malo's culture radius prevents an assault this turn so artillery is trained on Tintagol. Tintagol falls and has only 1 resister.

With the Tintagol pass open, Aescwine's army is able to travel to St. Mary and take the city. The stinking resistance has 5 members here.

Mechanized units take out a Vendee tank each before returning to garrison duty. Tanks take out two each until the Vendee horde is destroyed. Infantry is cycled to cities with barracks and upgraded to mech infantry.

Snaefell is retaken.

More worker traps are set. Tank armies moved into assault position on Saint-malo.

The last Brethon oil source is secured.

1820 Several worker traps are sprung but little other counter offensive activity occurs.

Saint-malo is bombed into city size and finally taken by a tank army and elite cavalry assault.

Castletown, Rennes and Douglas (Great Lighthouse) are taken - little or no resistance in each city.

Forces gather outside Ramsey (last Brethon city on the continent) and an amphibious assault is prepped from Kent to attack the island capital of Vannes.

Lys Cerrut is bombarded to township size. Aescwine's army destroys a Scottish tank army defenting Lys Cerrut. Lys Cerrut falls and ANOTHER leader emerges: Bhyrntoth! He zooms over to Lorient and creates an army that is immediately filled with 3 tanks and a mech infantry.

Kalestoc is bombarded to township size and taken. 4 resisters.

1822 Lys Cerrut and Calweton are lost to a brillian Scottish counter attack. The AI completely ignored all worker traps and concentrated their entire force in theatre to these two targets.

Calweton is retaken. Lys Cerrut is retaken. Caerphilly is bombarded to township size. Bhyrntoth's army destroys a Scottish tank army defending the city and Caerphilly is taken. Bridgend is bombarded to township size and taken. A tank army is lost assaulting Cardiff. Cardiff holds :(. Glamorgan is taken. Torfaen is bombed to township size and taken. Blaenen Gwent is taken. Neath is taken. Ramsey (last Brethon city on the continent) is taken. Cill Chainnigh is taken. Luimneach is taken.

1824 Scottish tanks sneak around our negligible cultural borders to strike against a stack of artillery. 5 artillery units and 2 mech infantry lost. Cardiff is bombed into submission and taken. We recover our 5 artillery units. Newport is taken. Beal Feirste is taken. Port Lairge is taken. Borders and terrain prevent more assaults. Attack force sets sail for Vannes.

1826 Dundee is hit with air, sea and land bombardment and then taken by tank army assault. Smith's Trading Company is ours! The assault is very slow now due to the sparse city spread of Scotland and their very large cultural borders. Modern armor would speed this up considerably.

1828 Vannes is taken. Brittany is finished. Stirling is bombarded by air and ground and then taken. Inverness is bombarded by sea and ground and then taken. Galleamh is taken.

Advance is too slow for the Destroyer's taste now so Operation Blindside is planned. Balle Atha Luain and Ard Macha are taken in a peace treaty with Scotland. A ROP is signed with them and troops and artillery are moved into attack range. Operation Backstab is launched with devastating success.

Edinburgh (Great Library) is taken. Kilmarnoch is taken. Perth (The Great Wall) is taken. Aberdeen is taken. Glasgow falls. Doire is taken. Scotland is no more.

1830 Luimneach revolts to the Irish.

We have achieved a Domination Victory!
Saebert the Magnificent wins with 3734 points.

I wanted to thank everybody who played this SG, especially Charis and Grey Fox. This was my first SG and likely my last for a while (Tournament plus Demo game plus You Decide Storyline plus working on mods = no time left) and it was very cool. I learned a lot about micromanagement and this has helped immesurably (won my second diety game based on micromanaging). I also got a LOT of excellent feedback on the Mod.

The end was a bit of a let down as interest waned when it became clear we had the game in hand. Normally I don't finish games like this - when it's all over but the clean up I retire and start a new one. This was a pretty cool ending though. I played it in a ruthless, conniving, evil way that I never use in a game. Taking complete advantage of ROP's to destroy two major civs was quite entertaining. Still, I feel a bit dirty, as though I cheated. Damn morals!

Thanks again and I'll see y'all in the tourney.
