Has anyone else tried out this mod for Doom, and Doom II? It's really good, and lives up to the name. So far I'm up to level 4 of Inferno, on ultra-violence difficulty, and it has been a challenge because of the improved AI. Also, the various other improvements to the weapons system, and goriness have made Brutal Doom a far superior experience from the vanilla version. Moreover, there is extra added depth to the game play with the ability to roll-strife out of danger; iron-sight aiming; necessity to reload your weapons; and the ability to perform fatalities. There are many other features I have not mentioned, and probably have yet to discover. This WAD was built by the modder Sargent Mark IV, and could be downloaded for free from his website. If you are an old-school doom fan like me, I strongly recommend this mod for you. I have played Doom through many times before, but this mod makes it feel like a whole new experience.

Also, I recommend downloading his compilation of Metal reiterations of the level theme songs, it compliments the mod.

If you want to talk Doom mods you may want to go to the ZDoom or Zandronum forums. I doubt there is more than 10 Doom players on Civfanatics.

PS: Yes Brutal Doom is awesome.

I am a doom fan too. i have downloaded this, but i dont think i could get it to work. In fact, i find doom fairly unstable on my computer. Risen3d ran perfectly on my old computer, but doesnt seem to like windows 7 64x. Doom is a blast for a quick 20 minutes or so. Ill see if i can give it another go.

Im having a whirl with half life 2 cinematics mod at the moment. Ever played it? It does a similar thing to what you are saying about brutal doom - makes it a whole new experience. The textures are amazing. You need a beastly computer to run it on full whack though.

Does Brutal doom work on plutonia and/or plutonia 2.

i can't say i missed doom by the time quake and unreal came out....

I liked the original quake a lot

I wish i could help you, but I'm not too knowledgeable about computer programming. I'm trying my hand at creating levels for Doom with Doom Builder 2, but I can't seem to test out my maps, because of a similar issue. But Doom and this mod works for me. All I did is unzip the file, drag and drop the pk file over GZdoom, and it runs; i have windows 7 64x as well.

Thanks for the support!

Doom isn't exactly a long enough game to keep playing over and over again.

You would have a point if it weren't for the fact that Doom is one of the easiest games to make custom content for. Especially levels.

There's enough fan-made content out there to last you a lifetime. Even if you only choose stuff that is on par with or better than the official levels.

Exactly, there is 20 years worth of content!

I think plutonia 2 is one of the best mods out there across all games. Its certainly got some of the best designed levels. I think modern day shooters all strive for realism, when rea.lly a shooter can be just as fun when it purposefully tries to be unrealistic, which is what doom does very well IMO.
