BTS Installation issues - Win 7

Here's the problem:

BTS won't install. It either locks up during the installation process OR states that Civ4 Original must be upgraded to the latest version before it will allow the installation to proceed.

If I try to install the civ4 original patch of 1.74 Final, it says that I'm already running version 1.09 so I can't update.

Either way, no BTS install.

Basic info on computer:

Running Win 7 64-bit. Originally was running Vista 64 bit where game ran fine. I then installed Win 7 by installing Windows 7 over Vista 64 bit. This means that none of my settings from Vista were imported into Windows 7 and every program has to be manually reintsalled.

Enter the problem. I can't reinstall BTS as noted above. I deleted the BTS folder and the Civ 4 folder and uninstalled and reinstalled Civ 4 with no change in circumstance.


Serious civ4 addict missing his crack. Even considering down grading to Vista or XP to get BTS installed and then doing an conventional "upgrade" installation of Windows 7 over the Vista/XP install. Any advice would be greatly apprecaited.

Don't think this is a hardware issue, but here's some basic info if you think it's important:

Gigabyte P45P board
Intel Core2Duo 3.3 GHz E8600
8 GB RAM
WD 640 GB Hard Drive
260 GTX Nvidia

Fixed my issue.

Solution was so simple, I'm almost embarrassed to leave this problem here. I had to go get the 1.61 Patch for civ 4 original before I could install civ 4 original's 1.74 patch. Applied the 1.61 patch to civ 4 original, then applied 1.74 patch to civ 4 original, then install for BTS installed correctly, then applied BTS 3.19 patch.

That was easy!

I didn't success trying to install BTS under win 7 (32bits) just like you guy!

I have to give a try to your trick... but I must wait some days in order to get my civ4 vanilla back in my hands.

Meantime I explain my problem: when trying to install BTS (on a fresh new win 7) the setup.exe fails as it starts and it displays a error message saying... NOTHING!

I've tried to run the setup.exe under Admin mod, I also checked if it was a problem of "compatibility" with olders windows (trying vista 32 and XP) but none of these attemps were succesfull.

Any help would be very wellcome!!!

You will need to install and patch Civ 4 vanilla to 1.61 before you try and install BTS. BTS will then patch Civ 4 to 1.74.

You will probably need to right click on the patches and setup.exe and run as administrator.

When you patch BTS you may well have to patch to 3.17 before you can patch to 3.19.

Hi I am new to the forum and new to updates and patches.

I used CIV4 and BTS on my XP with no issues.
I recently bought a new computer with windows 7 and after several attempts i got the original to install, then as described in previous posts BTS says there is a newer version it tries to install it then it fails and just aborts the install.

Previous posts say to install patch 1.61 then 1.74.

I have no clue where to get the patch or what to do with it as I never updated my old versions.

How does this process work?

You can get the patches form the downloads section of this forum here

Download the files and save them on your computer.

As you are running Win 7, to run the patch right-click on the .exe and choose run as administrator, don't just double click on it.

Install and patch Civ 4 before installing BTS.

Thanks for the welcome.

I downloaded the patch then right clicked, then run as adfministrator.

Then I got this error 'Civ4v161.exe is not a valid Win32 Application'

Do I have to save it in a certain folder as I just saved it in downloads.

A different error this time

The set up has detected that version 1.09.000 of sid meier's civilization 4 is already installed.

This set up is not compatible with this version.

you will have to uninstall the previous version before installing this version.
