When installing BTS something went wrong like some compatibly issue (it had something to do with appostic palace.bak and warlords), so i had to abort the install. I uninstalled warlords, to install BTS but BTS doesn't give me the option to install it just "play" (it doesn't work anyway).

I've uninstalled Civ vanilla and Warlords but BTS i can't seem to uninstall, I've tried the control panel/programs and features. I want to uninstall BTS to reinstall it.

There should not have been any incompatability between Warlords and BTS, so that shouldn't have caused a problem. You will probably have to unistall completely to get a clean install.

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :
Try to follow this order when doing stuff, some of it may already be gone or you have done by removing Warlords:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).

If this still doesn't work there is registry editing that can be done but obviously you don't want to mess with that if you don't have to.

I've deleted the above files still no luck...

What state are you in now?

Denial....

CIV 4 vanilla and warlords completely installed. The above files are deleted but when I insert BTS disc it still gives me the option to play it, even though its partly downloaded and vanilla is uninstalled.

I guess you mean Civ 4 vanilla and warlords competely uninstalled, if not, you're probably going to be better of unistalling everything before you start registry editing.

To clear out the registry entries you can use a program such as ccleaner which is probably safer if you're not sure what you're doing.

Or to do it manually open regedit (Start > Run... > regedit):
Delete all other Firaxis and Civilization and Civ keys in the registry - especially HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games eg for Civ 4: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

AND then look for and delete the entries with the following codes:

Civ4: {CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}
Warlords: {3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}
Beyond the Sword: {32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}

eg for Civ 4: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}

As always with registry editing - make sure you back up first!

Thanks for the help but i can't seem to find any off the codes....

Random question, can i install CIV on an exturnal harddrive

any help would be use-full thanks? complete system wipe?

So you have deleted all the files, including those in hidden folders - the installshield folders are important. And there are no registry entries relating to firaxis games. If you put the Vanilla or warlords disc in you get an install option, but not BTS. Did you try CC cleaner or equivalent? I really don't know what else to suggest other than double check that you have deleted what you should have, remember if you have 64 bit windows to look in program files x86.

I believe you can install on an external drive, just make sure that the drive letter is the same everytime and you may only be able to run BTS 3.19 due to DRM issues.
