An early taste of what I'm working on.

Standard Earth map (altered from Tacy) with cities pre-placed. Some civs start with three cities. Some start with more. All civs start with some gold to avoid bankruptcy on turn one but not enough to not quickly work on their economy.

Settlers are set waaaay back to Railroads. No city razing is in effect. For the first two thirds of history, the only way to expand is to conquer. Expand too much too early however and your economy will fall.

Each civ has a unique resource they can trade. For example, the Incas have the only silver deposits in the world. India is laden with spices. China has rice. All civs have access to two health resources. Not everyone gets a luxury. Trading is a must to grow.

All religions have been pre-placed. No more getting them all.

All civs have access to copper and iron however it is near their borders in most cases and must be defended. The only two winning options are conquer the world or buy your way up the tech tree and fly off of it. Only conquest and space race are enabled by default.

Again, this is just an early taste. I'm working steadily on the map to try and fix it up a bit more. Huge maps (and higher) get too slow and cumbersom for me in the later stages of the game so I intend to keep going with the standard size.

Currently I'm working on:
- unique resources that world wonders require to be built that are placed only under the city that builds it in actual history.
- balancing the Egyptians in a way that does not break everyone else.
- reworking the traits a bit.
- fine tuning.

Thanks to Teturkhan for the original idea. It's been too long since it's been translated onto Civ4.

As always, unzip the mod into your Beyond the Sword mod folder. Copy a copy of the map into public maps.

Sounds really good. I'll give it a go when my self imposed civ-break is over.

i like the 'trade or die' concept very much.

Some areas would get a lot of barbs if there is no settling till railroads.

:D Yes, that is the mod i wanted :D

Standard Earth Map miam !

Interesting! It sure worth trying it.

If it is all about the provided map isn't it some sort of a scenario not a modpack? Or do you intend to add more maps? Or some interesting idea if you allow random maps then give civs starting cities and resources using Python. Possible but somewhat difficult to implement.

This is just a peek of the mod being worked on. Creating the new resources is not easy. Amazing how easy it is to make the entire game go "boink" then stop working :(

There will be a huge version for those who like things a bit bigger. The standard however is the main one. More to come tomorrow.

Hmm... wrong map got added. You will find random cities have specialists in there already. This is an error created by testing out the wonders resources. This will be fixed first thing tomorrow. WB is handy but unforgiving or any mistakes.

I loaded up a game as Isabella on noble just for a laugh and it's a good game.

No settlers is fine because there are no spots left to settle anyway.

The key feature seems to be the need to have trading partners. On Noble I was able to expand into three other civs without hitting economic trouble.

I should try the mod on Prince.
